Both Iphone and ipod are apple made products that are very similar in terms on functionality, however they differ otherwise.

The main difference betwen an iphone and an ipod is that using an iphone, you can make and receive calls, as its a phone, as the name suggests. While an ipod is basically an mp3 player than can perform several functions and not just playing multimedia.

Due to the Sim card support, iphones also allow you to have a data connection whenever and wherever you want, but ipods can not do that.

Now one of the biggest differences between the iPhone and iPod is the battery capacity. Basically, it varies generation to generation but nowadays you can see a great difference between the battery life of an iphone amd an ipod.  For example, iphone 6 has roughly a 1800 mah battery while the ipod 6 gen, has a 1050 mAh one

Design and build wise, they both are the same, however iphones are heavier as they have more hardware in them as compared to their ipod equivalent.

In general, any iphone will have better specs than an ipod from the same generation.

On paper, they might seem to have the same specs but iphone now a days have a  lower aperture to let in more light into the lens to give you good pics in low light. Since the iphone 5s, all iphones have a Slow- Mo, Burst mode and video stabilization feature which is not found on ipods. This is again a great advantage of having an iphone.

This time, apple iPhone 7 is already out there but the ipod 7th gen is yet to be released then we will see how good the ipod is.

Apple might introduce the Fingerprint sensor on the ipod 7 or maybe some camera features which would be great.

But looking at the pricing, apple iphones are simply better value for money. and you should always choose an iphone over an ipod, so that you can use it to make calls, or just use it like an ipod, like I do.

While ipods can be useful for kids, who listen to music or browse web, but does not need to make calls. Here im specifically talking about ipod touch. On which you can play apps and games, just like you do on an iphone or use wifi. Else, you can go for cheaper ipods like ipod Nano, or Shuffle, but they are not so good as they don't run on ios. They lack many necessary features.
