The New batsman comes to the crease ... after a few misses and the odd one missing the edge there was some consistency reaching 25 not out ... and a flurry of reviews saw me reaching 50 not out . Then came the time of consolidation , testing times and with some closes shaves finally I have reached the magic figure of 75 Reviews. Steering away from the general idea to write such reviews about Mouthshut , I decided to write about my latest craze in Music nowadays .. Global Spirit by Karunesh .

Bruno Reuter of German Origin , a Graphic Designer by Profession met with a motorcycle accident that saw him oscillate between life and death ... Spiritualism got him closer to India and Osho . Whilst spending considerable time with Osho he came in contact with musicians the world over , the Indian music also leaving an unerasable mark in his heart. This Indian connection also aided him in forming a new alibi to release his music .. Karunesh which means Compassion in Sanskrit. Taking 2 years to complete Global Spirit is brilliance personified blending sounds, voices, tunes , instruments from the world over. New Age music has been well popularized by artistes like Enigma and Deep Forest. Calling his brand of music Lounge music , this style impresses.

The entire album has this zest about it, all the songs have a peppy percussion around them and still more than manage to convey the message the need to. The remixed version of Call of the Tribes starts the torrent of music .. fast paced with tribal undertones this number gently eases you into the style of the album. Punjab follows next .. it starts with the rendition of Aao Huzoor tumse ...leaving the listener perplexed.. then come the drums and a rustic Punjabi folk song which leaves you wanting for more. Engineering the sounds with precision Karunesh keeps the first line of the song on one speaker , the second on the other blending them for the remaining part giving a wonderful effect.

Native Rituals is a truly global song which has some African and Oriental sounding undertones. Earthsong follows next , this one starts with some African mumbo jumbo and never seems to pick up and presto suddenly it does ... and the most brilliant part is that Karunesh never fails to provide a new melody a new tune in every single song. Bombay Pure is my favorite , starting with a Sanskrit Shlok .. more of a Carnatic based Bhajan ..the peppy percussion and the memorable tune goads you to like this one. Having tested this song on pure die hard Carnatic lovers , I found the frowns on their faces slowly disappearing and a broad smile finally accepting this song.

And so we change sides coming onto to Ancient Secrets , the starting shouts of Haiyya Ho unnerve you a bit , but then comes the best part of this song and the brilliance of the master. Using the native Australian instrument Didgeridoo for the rhythm the song is transformed into a foot tapping number. Some brilliant Flute pieces follow in making this song a masterpiece. Kubula Ma is the final African sounding song in this album. I would say that there is a little too much of African based songs.. .that during a continuous listen the listener tends to get a little edgy being flooded with African songs.

Alibaba has helped me a lot ... I would call this song a brilliant de stressant. Having released Meditation related albums this is nothing new to Karunesh. The pleading haunting Cries of '' Aiya Alampanaah '' rounded off well by an Arabic singer fill the song. Till half of the songs Karunesh relies on Reed Flutes giving a very different feel .. the Baansuri then captures you with its melody. I can keep listening to this time after time.

Solitude dosent waste time in capturing your heart ... Starting with a wonderful pathos based tune it continues with a Qawaali like stanza which is repeated. This one evokes emotions over and again .. Earthsong Reprise is a shortened version of the original.

Words of Wisdom

Released by Times Music ,this album is seeped in melody and is highly experimental. It appeals to all ages but only to ones with a ear for good music. Like all masterpieces this one too takes some time to get into your system. The cassette is priced at Rs 100 and is worth every penny.

It is Ideal for a quiet evening either to lift your spirits or to mellow it down , its also a very good companion whilst driving.

Very well then enjoy the master and leave your comments on as you pass ..
