To make a trip to Agra, Jaipur and back to Delhi, I used GetMeCab service for three days. Car was good - neat and clean. Driver showed up on time. But from the beginning, he was bossy and nosy - that was from far from professional. He began with expressing his displeasure for the fact that we started at 11AM and not earlier - something that was none of his business.

I had to get some stuff from my home in Sagar Pur before we left Delhi. Sagar Pur isn't like Lutyen's Delhi where he picked us from. The roads here are not very even and wide. But this gentleman who said he had been driving for over two decades was all militant from taking him there. If twenty years of driving in India didn't prepare him for that, what else will? We could have driven ourselves. Since we are not expert drivers, that's why we hired car service. But he rather almost yelled at us.

All through the trip, he would try to thrust  his opinion about places to visit, restaurants to eat, markets to shop in,  on us, without as even asking. He was extremely nosy. He would ask the price of daal at a restaurant we dined at. He would ask my friend if he was married, why or why not. He would ask what we purchased in shops and at what price.

The digital businesses like GetMeCab can change the interface for discovery and reservation of products and services. But the experience of final consumption of such customer facing service depends on the field line staff. If they are not from digital generation then experience won't be very memorable unless these companies find a a way to train their 50 year old driving staff to the modern culture of less intrusion. We didn't say much to driver because he was almost of our father's age but he had no sense of social cues to  be quiet when appropriate and not force his ideas on customer.
