Vishnu Prasad (Tusshar Kapoor), a mediocre personality who does an honest job of selling water purifiers, is a nobody. He is very common, very inconspicuous and low on self-confidence. He has no friends, is a disrespected employee, and the girl whom he loves is in love with someone else. Also, his ever taunting mom (Rasika Joshi) adds to his life’s dilemmas.

When traumatised by the world, Visnu looks out of his samne wali khidki, not to widen his horizons but there lives JLo oops..Mohini (Antara Mali), an scantily clad girl and his dream girl. But here too, Vishnu is no match to her 'US returned' boyfriend Sameer (Ramman Trikha).

Nothing is what it should be for Vishnu Prasad. Till one day he trips over a statue and randomly wishes that he becomes gayab. His wish becomes a reality. And Vishnu is on top of the world avenging those who have troubled and mocked him. He also does everything within his power, even robs a bank, to impress Mohini. The man becomes obsessed and his acts become crimes.

The movie starts off quite well in the first half. The credit chiefly goes to the young actor who brings out the right body language and the facial expressions to convincingly portray a common guy who is low in self-confidence. But the second half of the movie is a complete letdown.

In a nutshell, Gayab could have been a gripping movie had there not been the lack of creative imagination on the part of writer and director. Gayab has an interesting storyline, but the makers have not taken advantage of the extent of humour this kind of film allows.
