DRISHYAM: Worst, Worster, Worstest

VIJAYPATH(1994), HAQEEQAT(1995), THAKSHAK(1999), and now DRISHYAM(2015), Ajay Devgan(46) - Tabu(43) duo have completed a tetralogy of films together. One can still remember'Ruk ruk ruk' song. 21-years later, (un)fortunately there is nothing much to remember in the current movie except for a mind-blowing climax.

A sub-title to the movie states: "Visuals can be deceptive." In today's age of cellcam, it is a definite yes. But in this movie, audio and rest is also deceptive.

We've had a plethora of southern remakes and they r watchable b'cuz of the Khans. One should put a full-stop to these remakes after the misadventure of this Hindi one. The movie has already been made in all southern languages minting money but in Hindi, it is a definite disaster.

Ajay - Shriya has two munnis. Tabu - Rajat Kapoor have one munna. Munna tries to blackmail the elder munni over some pics and disappears. Where is he on the earth or better still, below it? A nail-biting climax cannot save this movie from going below earth.

Ajay is the best cardboard I've ever seen. Static mono expressions. Maybe upgrading from action to serious roles left him seriously constipated. Age has certainly caught up with him. And that close-up of his face can scare the daylights out of anyone, leaving them screaming wildly. On that basis alone, I can call it a horror movie.

Tabu makes for a glamorous cop with a penchant for mindless violence. She does garner appreciation in a few frames but that's it. And the less said about the southern actress Shriya Saran(32), the better. That Kamlesh Sawant Gaitonde cop guy is the fantastic feature of this movie.

Beats me why the Hindi one carries the same original title'Drishyam' as it makes no sense to us viewers. There is no connect with the characters or story. It should've been streamlined for Hindi viewers. It is a thriller gone bad on account of shoddy treatment and lackadaisical attitude. The story is good but the treatment is bad.

Better still, watch the original DRISHYAM(2013, Malayalam, Mohanlal) with sub-titles. There r other remakes: DRISHYA(2014, Kannada, V Ravichandran); DRUSHYAM(2014, Telugu, Daggubati Venkatesh) and PAPANASAM(2015, Tamil, Kamal Hassan). Had they not made this Hindi remake, the world'd not've come to an end. I can see BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN one more time after watching this idli dosa in Goa or even a Hindi remake of BAHUBALI.
