All guys and girls out there, get ready for some high doses for laughter! Get ready for madness, stupidity, fun and ‘happy and gay moments’….‘coz Dostana is here! If the promos of Dostana impressed you, the actual film will bowl you over! It is surely one of the best entertainers of this year and will surely succeed in impressing all sections of moviegoers!

The story of the movie: Sam (Abhishek Bachchan) and Kunal (John Abraham) are based in Miami. Sam is a nurse (yes, you read it right!) while Kunal is a photographer. Both are on a lookout for a rented flat. At last, they find one such apartment which was perfect for both of them. But the landlady (Sushmita Mukherjee) is no way going to rent her apartment to two guys since her neice Neha (Priyanka Chopra) was also to share the apartment. Therefore, Sam and Kunal pretend to be gay to secure the apartment! Soon, they are introduced to Neha. Over a period of time, Sam, Kunal and Neha become the best friends. And Sam and Kunal find themselves falling in love with Neha. On the other hand, there is Sam’s mom (Kirron Kher) who’s searching a bride for her son who’s pretending to be gay! And there’s also Neha’s boss who’s smitten by her. To find out what happens next and who ultimately gets Neha, watch the film!

Dostana goes completely against the tide, and therefore it’s completely novel and fresh product. The film is stupid and nonsensical at times, but it succeeds fully in tickling your funny bone! The best thing about the humour is that it doesn’t go overboard or become cheap at all. And that’s Dostana’s biggest plus-point.

The first half is a completely funny! Some sequences such as the Venice sequence and Kirron Kher turning up unexpectedly at Priyanka’s house bring the house down! In fact, you’ll find it difficult to stop laughing in these scenes!

However, the humour content goes drastically down in the second hour. Also, Tarun Mansukhani’s execution is little confusing at times. However, the film picks up wonderfully in the climax which was again hilarious! Also, the film looks modern, fresh, and youthful and is technically brilliant.

Also, what is worth mentioning is that Dostana in no way offends any community or group. The film is a fun-filled clean entertainer. Some of the scenes may raise eyebrows but overall, the film will be accepted by all!

Dostana would have fallen like a pack of cards without Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham’s convincing performance. In fact, both of them deserve a pat on their back for their brave effort! Any actor would have thought thousand times before signing for such a role and may even had failed to deliver a great performance. John and Abhishek made up a great pair and did an incredible job! In fact, it’s difficult to say who did a better job! Abhishek Bachchan was perfect for the role of Sam. His girlish behaviour in some of the scenes was hilarious! Dostana surely ranks as one of the best performance of Abhishek’s career! It’s surprising this is the same Abhishek who played serious roles in films like Sarkar Raj, Sarkar and Guru!

John Abraham was no less! He attracts attention with his bare-it-all entry! But performance-wise too, he was just fabulous. Watch out for his angry expressions to Abhishek in the beginning! John has always been a brilliant actor and has shined in each of his films. With Dostana, John’s career will surely become stable! John, you rock!

Priyanka Chopra looks sizzling! Her costumes, too, suit her well. And she comes with an amazing performance. But of course, she gets overshadowed by Abhishek and John in most of the scenes. But still, she gets a lot of scope, especially in the 2nd half. Out of six films of PC this year, four had been flops. But finally Fashion scored and now Dostana will also be hugely successful. Dostana is surely another feather in Priyanka’s cap!

Bobby Deol has a major role to play in the 2nd half and does a great job. However, his hair style could have been better. Boman Irani succeeds in raising laughs! In fact, his scene at Priyanka’s house turns out to be the funniest sequence of the film! It was great to see this talented actor back after a long time. Kirron Kher succeeds in adding some mad moments in the film! She overacted but that’s what her character was supposed to do! Sushmita Mukherjee’s accent was funny and manages to laugh in the beginning. The kid playing Bobby Deol’s son was cute! Shilpa Shetty as usual looked sexy in the song ‘Shut Up & Bounce’.

Vishal-Shekhar’s music was brilliant and appeals to the youth. In fact, the duo was the perfect choice for such a youthful film. Songs rock, especially ‘Jaane Kyun’, ‘Desi Girl’ and ‘Shut Up & Bounce’. Lyrics were great, especially in the song ‘Maa Da Laadla’! Ayanaka Bose’s cinematography was another plus-point. It was just outstanding. The locales of Miami are wonderfully shot by the DOP. An award-winning job by Ayanaka!

Anvita Dutt Guptan did a great job as a dialogue writer in Bachna Ae Haseeno. She does an equally good job here in Dostana. Some of the dialogues, especially the ones mouthed by Kirron Kher, are just brilliant!

Finally, Tarun Mansukhani, inspite of falling at some places, comes out as a winner! The storyline is completely original. Screenplay is interesting and effective. However, it’s his direction which made things little confusing in some scenes. Also the song ‘Maa Da Laadla’ was little exaggerated. But overall, his direction was first-rate and has the ability to become the star director!

Some of the best scenes of the film:

1.    The songs ‘Shut Up & Bounce’, ‘Jaane Kyun’, ‘Desi Girl’ and ‘Khabar Nahi’

2.    Abhi and John meeting the landlady for the first time

3.    The ‘love at Venice’ scene (brilliant and quite imaginative!)

4.    Abhi and John at the immigration center

5.    Boman and Kirron at Priyanka’s house (funniest scene!)

6.    Kirron cheering up Priyanka

7.    John’s wonderful friendship dialogue!

8.    The ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ scene!

9.    The scene at the trail room

  1. The basketball match sequence

  2. The climax (idiotic but funny!)

On the whole, Dostana is a rocking entertainer! The film works big time because of its witty humour, brilliant performances by the lead actors and its fresh look. Most importantly, the film doesn’t offend anyone and is not a cheap film at all. Go, watch this slick, modern, youthful entertainer and enjoy!
