I explored Don Bosco Museum around 6 years ago with my cousin brother on a student's trip programme. Don Bosco Museum in Shillong is a major tourists' spot providing a glimpse of the rich and multi-cultural lifestyles of the indigenous peoples of North East India.

Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures is a famous museum that is known for preserving the culture of the various tribes and communities of Northeast India. This place is run by the Salesian order of the Catholic Church and has a gigantic archive of information on the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. There are numerous galleries dedicated to various categories and groups of artifacts. From the Language Gallery and the Photo Gallery to the Agriculture Gallery and the Musical Instruments Gallery, the list seems endless.

Apart from all these, the museum organises exhibitions from time to time and it also has a library, known as the Otto Hopfenmueller Library, which houses different books and resources related to the various aspects of Northeast India and its indigenous people.

Perched at the hill of Mawlai in Shillong, Don Bosco Museum has seven floors with various galleries presenting the 8 states of north east India in one roof. It has a great collection of artifacts that include fiberglass models, paintings - a delight to the eyes.

Don Bosco Museum is a main appeal for students because it offers an opportunity of learning at a beautiful center. Before you leave this amazing museum, make a breathtaking sight of Shillong city from the terrace, which will give you a mesmerizing view of the city of Shillong.

The Museum is open Monday through Saturday. During Summer(February 01-November 30), it is open from 09:00 am to 05:30 pm. During Winter(December 01 to January 31), it is open from 09:00 am to 04:30 pm. The Museum remains closed on all Sundays.
