After feeling very disappointed about a lot of movies(three hours ones) we took a punt on this little heard movie and tried it out. I think that is the reason that I am the first one to write a review of the movie.

The Team

Chupke Se is produced by Jayshree Makhija and Nirmal Anand who have produced hit comedies like Khatta Meetha, Chashme Buddoor, Jalwa, Hero Hiralal and is directed Shona Urvashi. The experience in producing such movies was very visible in the movie and as it is not a very hyped movie so went into the theater with an open mind not expecting much from the movie. Another factor leading to the low expectations was the lead starcast of new comers like Masumi and Zulfikar Syed. It is the supporting cast which actually generated most of the interest and the names started flashing on the screen I was sure I had not wasted my money. The leads are supported by the likes of Tinu Anand, Rema Lagoo, Jayant Kriplani, Rati Agnihotri and the great Om Puri. All and all a good ensemble of actors who dont have anyhting to prove and acting comes naturally to them and they proved it one more time.

The Theme

The theme/brief is very simple the director is out there to entertain you and has doen that with aplomb and has not deviated from the brief.. Make the audience laugh. A very clean entertainment fare is dished out to teh audiences, which incidently were very few in numbers but I think once the word goes out the attendence will improve. It is a story of a middle class girl who has stars in her eyes and wishes to become big and famous by any means possible and is supported by her friend who is there throught the story and stands by her in thick and thin. Meghna has a small family of mother (Reema Lagoo, a house wife), father(Dilip Pravabhakar, an IT inspector) and her little brother(he is actually very little in her comparision).

Megha is a compulsive lier and lands in trouble because of this time and again and during one of her lieying sprees at a super store she accidently bumps into Varun. Their paths cross again in a disco( Bimbo club) where gains entry by lieying again. Now unlike all the run of the mill movies this movie has a social message too about not lieying. The story takes off after the second meeting where the club owner Riz(friend of Varun) introduces Varun(a millionnaire) to dream maker ALmirah Kochar and has a bet with her to make Megha a super model. As the girl has gained entry to the club as Sarika. Sarika is invited by Almirah to make her a model in Indian Miss India( sounds very familiar to Femina Miss India) and to complicate the matters her father also visits ALmirah regarding some tax queries and so does Varun. ALmirah asks her dil faink husband to get teh taxman off her back and in walks Quamat Khan(Om Puri) the unknown DOn who is clamouring for fame. SO the deal is like this. Khan will be made famous by ALmirah is he gets rid of IT buy for her.

The love story blossoms on the sidelines as OM Puri and IT inspector Timgere take centre stage and none can stop laughing. Timgere with his simplistic humour, Om Puri with his Sher's really take the movie to new comical heights matched in recent times by Jhankar Beats. What happens in the end is still comical and has been lifted out of miss congeniality but all an all there are very few lose ends inspite of being a comedy and an out and out enjoyable movie. A girl in search of fame, A millionnaire in search of love, A don in search of fame and a dream maker ...... The contest is sponsored by a Pan Masala guy a la Manikchand... a spoof on filmfare and famina combines and how people are mortally afraid of honest IT persons. Jayant Kriplani in the role of Varuns dad is unique in his performance. But unfortunately this is all I will reveal about the story, I think it is a movie which you go to with very little expectations and prior knowledge and you will really come out laughind, happy, relaxed and relieved. After this you might like to go and watch some of their old movies also.

The Music

The songs and music is OK and there are no great hummable songs but then if there were none no one would have missed them. Just for the records music is by Vishal Bharadwaj with lyrics by Gulzar.
