CHUP CHUP KE is another enjoyable joyride from Priyadarshan. The director who delivered Good comedies like HERA PHERI, HUNGAMA, HULCHUL, GARAM MASALA & MALAMAAL WEEKLY, don’t disappoint this time as well. While the comedy in the first half will bring the house down with lots of laughter, the emotional scenes in the second half is sure to pull the string of your heart and make the film a different experience than a mindless comedy.

After reading various reviews I went to watch the film Chup Chup Ke without much expectation. In fact, I could not get the ticket for Krrish for my family, so we selected Chup Chup Ke, thinking Priyadarsan film will not be that bad. And, the film was a true entertainer throughout.

Shahid Kapoor plays the lead while Sushma plays his fiancée. Jeethu is a poor boy, who is trying to clear off his huge debt, but in vein. He had to commit suicide to repay the debt. But, fate had something else for him in store. He was saved by Rajpal yadav who was an employee in Paresh Rawal’s boat. Situations lead Shahid to play mute and dumb. Poverty leads the trio (Shahid, Paresh & Rajpal) land into Om Puri’s house, where Paresh cunningly mortgage Shahid and Rajpal and escape with his boat. There Shahid waits his in life fiancée Kareena, who is really mute. How Shahid manage to play safe with his acting, whom he will marry at the end, how Paresh rawal get his loans paid…. These are the few questions you can see sorted out in the film. But, it is the comedy track which is the real back bone of the film and it carried the film throughout. Even the romantic side is enjoyable where little flavor of comedy is added.

As usual, Priyadarsan know how to make use of fun out of poverty. In Hera Pheri, it was Akshay, Sunil & Paresh Rawal, but in CCK, it is Shahid, Rajpal yadav & Paresh Rawal. In Hera Pheri, it was Paresh Rawal who ran away with glory from others. But, this time around, it is Rajpal Yadav who is the winner. No doubt, Rajpal has created as much fun as that Paresh Rawal generated in Hera Pheri. Why Rajpal make you laugh is simply because of his stupidity. It is fun to watch Rajpal Yadav alone, when other dialogues are around. It is not easy to sideline Paresh Rawal, with a good role. In this film, Paresh have good role, especially in the beginning, but as things progressed, we wish to see more of Rajpal Yadav than Paresh Rawal.

Shahid Kapoor did a good job. In fact, one factor which was making me wait to watch this movie was Shahid Kapoor, as I don’t liked him earlier. However, in this film he is very cute and he even stands to Sunil Shetty in a big way!!! He also express well to comedy. It was a surprise. Kareena with her perfect beautiful look and good expressions steal one’s heart. Sunil Shetty played his usual self. In climax he gives his best shots I have seen from him. Tears from Sunil’s eyes looked very much genuine. Sushma is ok, Anupam Kher & Manoj Joshi done their part well. Shakti Kapoor added masala to the comedy track (When Paresh rawal leave the duo at Om Puri’s house, it is Shakti Kapoor completes the trio. Neha Dhupia delivers a mature role and she handles it well.

Music is good. In fact, the first song, Dil Vich and Ghoomar were very good. However, the Dil Vich song could have shifted to the end, to adjust the gap between three songs in the second half.

I don’t know much about the technical side, so cannot comment. But, the film was a good experience.

Few really funny scenes are mentioned below. (But I have to say, there are much more scenes which I hope you will enjoy.)

Paresh Rawal & Om Puri’s first meeting. Paresh Rawal’s hospital scenes, especially when the doctor takes his tooth mistakenly. Rajpal Yadav fought with Seethal(Ha…Ha…Ha…) Shahid asking Rajpal Yadav & Shakti Kapoor to keep quite & Rajpal’s reaction Rajpal yadav & Shakti Kapoor’s discussion in the next morning. Rajpal Yadav throws the pot mistakenly to Om Puri Rajpal Yadav’s joining of “duty” in Om Puri’s house. Shahid pulling down all the cloths washed by Rajpal Yadav. Paresh Rawal’s stealing the iron box. Rajpal Yadav & Manoj Joshi’s first meeting, especially the photo scenes.

It is not all over, there are more.

The film is also not without its share of faults.

(The major one) Shahid calls Gujarat and tells that he loves Kareena. He is going to sleep with the paper. Rajpal yadav throw the paper accidently. The paper reached to Shakti Kapoor. Shakti Kapoor thinks that it is thrown by the lady servant. He went to him, read the paper. Shahid heard that and run away with the paper(This all happened in 10 minutes, or say maximum 1 hour time of midnight)and stopped by Sunil Shetty, who was supposedly in Gujarat. Ok, agreed, he was supposed to be returned. How come he came from the upstairs? How come he has sorted out things with the marriage boy? And, the moment Sunil Shetty hit at Shahid, everybody is marched around. This scene is not convincinigly shot. Shahid talking to Neha and Kareena. The bamboo stick’s colour is yellow mixed gray. After few dialogues, it turns green. How come? Why Kareena fall in love with Shahid? He is a cheat all the way. (Agreed, sympathy might have worked for him.) Sushma’s widow status is not common and not so easily understandable.

Having said all, the film is a must watch, for its comedy scenes. You will not get many chances to see quality comedy like this.

As Taran adesh said correctly in his review on Chup Chup Ke, “Priyadarsan is a brand now” and he still scores a distinction for Chup Chup Ke.
