The advent of low-cost airlines causing unprecedented demand for air transport ( and of course, more tourists, more sex abusers, more rubbishs ) make Chiang Mai becomes smaller. Surrounded by mountains, temples, educational institutions and community, the expansion of this 60 years-old airport is impossible. Proposals for the second airport had been done for several times. ( How can this small city handle a large number of mad tourists for everywhere???) Pollution and congestion are the main reasons turning the tourists off. Even though the Prime Ministry Thaksin Shinawatra had insisted on the expansion plan, the proposed scheme caused a lot of dispute. ( it's was just a drama, the large piece of land available for building new airport is owned by him). Many hotels were built along the sides of Ping river causing ugly scenes for both locals and tourists. Some Hotel such as Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi just makes the guest room or Villa to be like a temple ( Shows the ignorance of the high status of the religion) Just a few people come to admire our culture....almost of those who claimed for this reason was just a liar.......... The word'' Oriental'' seemingly shows how the westerners perceive Chiang Mai as a '' Backward''. Their suite was named '' Colonial suite''. I wonder why they have such a courage to remind people for the colonial suite time. The Prime Ministry intended to promote Chiang Mai ( his own home town) an aviation hub, as its strategic position has a huge potential to become a centre of medical treatment, education, trade, investment and farm export. Thanks to the short flying time from Chiang Mai to many cities in Laos, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Vietnam,Burma or even Taiwan, people from '' Everywhere'' ( I insist) can come to this city anytime....... But Chiang Mai is not a toilet that tourists can to do anythings they want!!!!!!!!! What you see shows how corrupted Thai government is. They keep wealth for themselve, and keep others stupid. By the way, they also '' lure' you to this tourist trap''. Night safari things or cable car things is just a pretext to make his own profit...... If the Prime Minister truly wants to promote “Chiang Mai hub”, environmental problems have to be taken into account. If the city loses charm, the development plan will remain an idea that may never be realized.
