Mixed Bag!

The music score of Chalte Chalte is a mixed bag. While a few songs are extremely melodious, some other songs are terrible.

Hence, it is important to consider each song individually.

The winner here is-

1)‘Tauba Tumhare Yeh Ishaare’.......5/5

Essentially the best song of the album, this is one instantly likable tune. It has a very sweet and romantic feel. Alka Yagnik and a surprisingly tolerable Abhijeet render it in style. This song has that old Jatin-Lalit magic- the same magic that graces songs like ‘Tujhe dekha to yeh’ and ‘ Pehla nasha’. Unfortunately, this is the only song in the album that can be termed as magical.

2)‘Gumshuda ‘..........4/5

This fast track provides a much-needed break from the slow mushy tracks like ‘Suno Na’ and ‘Chalte Chalte’. Sonu Nigam keeps screaming ‘Gumshuda’ in the most consistent manner, so some people may not like this song. I liked it for the energetic singing and the cool new word- Gumshuda!

Basically, it’s a nice song- a bit different than the rest.

3)’Dagariya Chalo’.......3.5/5

When Udit Narayan gets to sing a catchy, traditional gaana, he puts life in it. I like his voice, he is one the best singers of today. I wonder why he didn’t sing ‘tauba’ and ‘suno na’ -those songs would have sounded much nicer in his voice.

‘Dagariya Chalo’ is the traditional folk music song; the lyrics are in pure Hindi. I cannot imagine anybody else singing this particular song; Udit Narayan adds a lot of merit to it. And yes, it is melodious in spite of being fast-paced.

4)’Suno na suno na’.........3.5/5

This cute solo is another great song. Abhijeet sings it comfortably. This Adesh Shrivastav composition is somewhat similar to a Jatin Lalit solo from Yes Boss- Main koi aisa geet gaun’.

5)Chalte Chalte.............2.5/5

So, this is the title song. It is a bit sad- it goes like this- ‘Chalte chalte kaise yeh faasle ho gaye…’ Thankfully, it is not too slow or boring. But, It isn’t very great either.

The lyrics are clearly inspired from the ‘Saath saath’ classic- ‘yeh bata de muze zindagi’.

6)Layi Vi Na Gayee........1/5

It is a Punjabi sad song sung by Sukhvinder Singh. It is very boring and ordinary.

This song should be avoided without fail.

7)Tujhpar Gagan Se..........0/5

Actually is will be an exaggeration to call this one a ‘song’.I mean, it is just ‘noise’.

It is irritating, boring and extremely annoying. Harmony is gumshuda here. This is the worst song from this album- very noisy- must be avoided.

Thus, the average rating is observed to be less than 3/5.

These days, most of the movies have just one or two hit tracks. Chalte Chalte is no exception. These songs (except tauba) are likely to be gumshuda from public memory very soon..

Since my brain isn’t gumshuda yet, I haven’t watched this movie or its songs. So, this review considers only music quality, not picturizations.

Chalte Chalte is being compared to Saathiya for similar storylines. As far as music is concerned, Saathiya music is much much better.

Passion and Richness- these two factors are gumshuda in Chalte Chalte (except ‘tauba tumhare ishaare’ and ‘gumshuda’).

I would recommend this collection only for those 2-3 good songs.
