When you visit California, don't miss this jewel-by-the-bay just north over the world famous Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, nestled in Richardson Bay (can you tell I love where I live?). From S.F., you can drive, take a tour via bus or on a restored fire truck, ride a rented bike (my second favorite way to walking over) at Pier 49 or near the Ferry Bldg in S.F.) and cycle through several S.F. neighborhoods, then out along the marina where you can see St. Francis Yacht Club, historic homes and the Marina Green on the S.F. side - even take aa quick side trip to Crissy Field to walk and play on the beach) then over the G.G. bridge, stop at the LookAbout, to look back at S.F. then travel on down the curving hill through public park lands of trees, and on down through town to the ferry plaza in the middle of tiny downtown Sausalito for a ride back to S.F. All within walking distance in Sausalito you can visit shops with local crafts, paintings, clothing, ice cream, jewelry, seafood and other cuisine from nine countries. Walk the boardwalk and see the sailboats waiting to go out. Walk the other way, along Bridgeway and see the single best, most sweeping view of the S.F. skyline. Consider walking or driving through the Marin Headlands where you can look down on the GG bridge, see Nike placements,f ishing boats two beaches, many hiking and bike trails and a youth hostel. Visit the Bay Area Discovery Museum with your kids. See the Bay Model to see how the water flows in and out of the bay. Within ten minutes of downtown you can rent kayaks, sculls, sailboats - or get on an historic sail boat and tour of the waterfront and of the bay. See seals, seagulls, pelicans - maybe even a whale. Taste wines at several restaurants (five with waterfront views) , bars or our two tasting places. Many of our wines served come from nearby Sonoma and Napa counties.See our town thorugh the eyes of locals for special happenings, who's in the news, where to eat, stya over night etc. at sausalitobythebay.com. Most people who live here went out of the way to choose to live in Sausalito so we are a pretty happy and admittedly ecccentric bunch. About 23 businesses work globally but have their "headquarters" here. Some of the Web 2.0 and games creators and podcasting, vlogging and other creative businesses have located here. More than 50 published authors, three actors (that I know of) and nine musicians live here. Since many of the people on Mouth Shut are from India you might want to know (if you do not already) that Vijay Mallya (head of Kingfisher Beer and Kingfisher Airlines and more) lives here sometimes in what's perhaps the largest home (on a hill facing the water, of course). He's bought several properties for his various businesses and his car collections. We have the #1 ranked U.S. Art Festival here in August. Five great hotels.... alot to see and do - even if you have only one day.And Sausalito can serve as your gateway to visiting other beautiful places in California: Lake Tahoo, the wine country in Napa and Sonoma, the North Coast to Mendocino, Carmel/Monterey and Big Sur. Hope to see you here, and remember to visit sausalitobythebay.com to be in the know before you go.
