In every household there are occasions where parties are arranged, big or small where friends, close relatives, neighbours or children are invited as GUESTS.The party can be for any reason it can be a BIRTHDAY PARTY, ANNIVERSARY PARTY, ENGAGEMENT PART, KITTY PARTY or a general house warming get together party, whatever it is its your humble duty as a HOST to 1)RECEIVE 2)ENTERTAIN 3)SEE OFF your guests in the most cordial and graceful way.Its not easy being a host whether it is  for a day or more coz not everyone has that gift of interacting or entertaining the people, i'ld say its an ART..

In my opinion the biggest reward for a host is when your guest say to you.............that I am glad I came to your house or party, and 'ld love to come again.................which means the host has been successful in making his guests happy. So here i'll write all the things I feel are required for being a good host..................  you want to go about the party, how many people you are going to call, about food, venue, place.............whether u want to host the party at home or hotel(rules will remain the same for the host), expenditure, and then you can go forward and start inviting your guest.

WAY OF INVITATION very important, how you intend to invite your guest, whether you want to call them(ON THE PHONE) and tell, or ask your secretary\servant to do the same, or whether you tell them about the party in  your house at your work place or decide to go to your guest's house and invite them personally..................whatever it is be very courteous and polite in your speech and tell them that it'll be an honour for you if they make it to your party and also inform your guests a few days in advance, about the party and venue. If the party is for special occasion you can also carry a card with you.

Always be present at the gate or door to receive your guest and greet them with  a big smile on your face. You can also OFFER them a rose or any other flower of your choice as a token of your appreciation that they came and also to make them feel special.

As a host you can ................introduce your guest so that they feel comfortable in each other's company(if they are meeting for the first time) and don't feel left out...................also this will create a more cordial atmosphere.

Your guest shouldn't feel lonely or bored in your party, so keep them engaged, by talking with them, but only leisure talks, there shouldn't be any kind of bitchy or controversial talks............You can also play some soft and soothing music if its a dinner party, for your guests. Also you should never leave your guest alone, make sure that some of the family member is there with them............if you have to go the kitchen or you are  talkin on the phone. If children are also can engage them in seperate rooms with games or music, so that they don't create any chaos. All through the party wear an attitude of gratitude.

Drinks should be served a few minutes after the arrival of your guests. If you have arranged for drinks, you can serve the ladies with juice\cild drinks\sqash...............but if its the same for all you can serve your guests with soup, jaljeera, aam paana  an hour before you serve the food. You can also serve some snacks with it fried nuts, salads, cheese, namkeens etc.

After you are through with the drinks, you can serve the food................make sure that there is enough place\space for people to sit\stand wherever you have arranged  the food. That way its convient for all..................make sure there is enough variety in your food, food that you serve is hot................and go around personally asking your guest what they will like to have.

A few minutes after the food you can serve desserts or sweet dish, whatever you can be kheer, suffles, puddings, halwa, rasgoolas, and it'll be even better if you prepare it at home................not only you'll earn praise for that, your guest will be to how much effort you have put  to make your guest happy. And yes no party is complete without serving paan , so make sure you serve this to your guest before they leave.

After all this IS done.....................its time for your guest to leave, so thank them and express your gratitude and happiness, telling them it was a plasure for you to have their company....................and see  each one of them off personally.

Apart from these there are few things that a host should also take care of before or if he has arranged a partY.

~If the party is at home...............keep your house very clean and the decoration minimal and very sobre~

~Make it a point to keep away all the valuable and breakable articles away from the reach of the children of you guest, to avoid any hard feelings later on~

~As a host you should be very presentable and ready with neat and well ironed clothes before the arrival of your guests~

~Always make sure to know whether your guests are vegetarian or non vegetarian and prepare the food accordingly~

~Keep the timings for your party..............such which is suitable and convient for all~

~Make good parking arrangements so that your guest do not face any inconveince~

Don't go around asking your guest again and again as to how they liked the food or your house, or the arrangements................let them praise or say it themselves.

So people these are a few things I feel you need to follow if you want to  be GOOD HOST.................i hope you'll find it helpful.
