Sometimes living in the city sucks and you just want to run away from the everyday routine. Now people staying in Bangalore can just pickup a vehicle and leave to a cool and beautiful place which is 70 kms from Bangalore. It’s called Devrayana Durga.

DD can be reached on the tumkur road.

Make sure you take a diversion after about 55 kms on the Tumkur road. Once you have taken the diversion, the difference is noticeable. “The narrow and not very well maintained road”, small villages and large fields are to see. After about 10 kms on this narrow road, the valley area starts. The coiled road is wonderful where you can stop your vehicle for sometime and sit at the edge of the valley to admire its beauty.

Places to See at Devarayana Durga: There are about four places to see. The best place is a Peak where the vehicles can go. At the top of the hill there is a (PWD) Guest house, I am still searching for the address of the booking office in Bangalore. The guest house has only two rooms with no food available. You have to get what you need from outside. Thank god for at least the water is provided by the guest house watchman. I have not tried but in the evening, sitting at the garden of the guesthouse with a large of VAT 69 with a valley in front of you and the chilled air, would be fun.

And most important information about this place: This is the only place in 30 kms area where the cell phone works (Not Hutch).

See the temple on the same Hill. At the back side of the temple, there is a trek route.

There is a park Namada Chilume at the foot hills of the valley. The place is filled with trees which leave very little space for the sun rays to come in. Nice place to sit and relax the afternoons. A huge number of deer are kept here. Other than deer, you can spot a lot of monkeys and stray dogs. There is a place for the campfire where a lot of times we can spot children camping. Overall a nice place to enjoy you packaged meal in the afternoon. After dusk the park is closed for visitors.

The best way to go to Devarayana Durga is by Bike. And if planning to stay at the guesthouse, do not forget to bring the mosquito repellents.
