Article 15 by Anubhav Sinha and Ayushman Khurrana asks us questions that we already know, but which we don't ask ourselves enough.
Ayushman is terrific as Ayan Ranjan, a newly deputed IPS officer. He is being sent to the problematic lands of Uttar Pradesh as a punishment. Article 15 looks us directly in the eye about the humiliations forced upon India by its caste system. And it shows no sign in playing it cool.
The film is based on the real life Badaun killings. In here, the policemen are forced to hush up the gang rape and murder of 3 teenage girls, just because they belonged to a lower caste. It's a much needed film in our modern days, throwing truths in our face, which we conveniently choose to forget.
