Flavours of North India - Angeethi

Coming from Mumbai, I really miss the awesome variety of food available out there! You crave for authentic north Indian food and chats. Guys, real chat NEVER has carrot in it! Sigh! Anyway! All said and done, one day a friend helps us discover Angeethi. Somehow the BJN group of hotels invokes trust (Samarkhand, Aromas of China, Hypnos…), which was strengthened by Angeethi…

On the top floor of Museum Inn on Church Street, is an open-air dhaba, complete with posters of 70s Bachchan movies, cane chataais as purdahs to shelter you from rain and sun. A paanwala who makes yummy paans to end you meals with (try the maghai paan that melts in your mouth) and quick and efficient service that’s not SO common in Bangalore. They have a closed A/C area also, but the ambience outside is far better. So, if you aren’t a stickler for A/C (artificially cooled) or aren’t a huge group, enjoy the rustic feel outside.

As for food, order anything and it tastes delicieux and authentic. We had sarson da saag, paneer khurchan (glorified paneer bhurjee), few types of chicken (all this was eaten over our multiple trips). There choice of Indian breads and its quality is also neat! The Pudina Paratha here is a MUST try for anyone! Its light, crisp and the mild flavour of pudina is something that will linger on your taste buds for a long time.

The quantity is fairly good and two subzis will be just right between 3 people. The service is quick and helpful. They have a great buffet lunch, which is a steal, and you need reservations on a Saturday afternoon if you want to enjoy it. If you don’t go in for starters or alcohol, you will pay around Rs.120 – Rs.150/per person. But it will be a wholesome and delicious meal that you would want to experience over and over.

Saaddi advice sunoge, toh asli Punjab da swaad paoge!
