Uttarakhand is known as the abode of Gods and Almora is one of the major districts of this state. Situated at an altitude of 1,763 ms above the sea-level, this tiny district is one of the major tourist attractions in the North India. Be it summer or winters, this tourist hotspot continues to attract tourists from all walks of life.


Almora is 370 kms away from Delhi, however, the city is well-connected. You can reach the place in your own vehicle or can hire buses or Volvo for yourself. The route itself is pretty dramatic and will engage you. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam and there are regular trains available from Delhi.This district is well known for its art, craft and heritage. The climate of Almora is pleasant throughout the year and it snows in the winter.


Almora has a few well-known temples, which are worth watching. These include Kasar Devi, Nanda Devi, Doli Daana, Shyayi Devi, Khakmara, Asht Bhairav, Jakhandevi, Katarmal(Sun Temple), Pataal Devi, Raghunath Mandir, Badreshwar, Banari Devi, Chitai, Jageshwar, Binsar Mahadev, Garhnath and Baijnath.The main attraction of the place is Ghanti wala mandir,also known as golu devta mandir. It is visited by pilgrims all through the year.


This city is also known for its famous sweet called Baal Mithai. Made out of pure ghee, milk and chocolate, you should definitely try it once here.


The district has a number of accommodations, which will cater to your needs and budgets. If you are planning to pay a visit to a breath-taking and economical hill station, then Almora will be best for you.
