EWR-FRA-MUM-HYD: I recently flew with Air India mainly because it was the cheapest airline available. At 6'1, boy was that not worth the $450 I saved because of this.
The seats are small and cramped and seem to be designed for someone over under 5’6; I could not bear to sit down. My legs were completely crushed, I was left with leg pains for almost 3 weeks. I even asked the flight attendant to let me stand for most of the duration or sit down in the front or something. She just says sorry I can’t do anything and just walks away.
I had a friend who flew Jet airways; they moved him into a business class seat for the duration because he experienced the same problem. I have flown with Qatar, British, KLM and Emirates, and I have never had a problem with my height on those airlines. WE landed at Mumbai almost 3 and half hours late. I had four hours to make my connect flight to HYD; I missed it by 2 hours. Mumbai airport is impossible to navigate with 3 children.
There are far too many people, the ground staff are unhelpful, and rude. They dont care what you have to say, all they care about is talking with their coworkers. WE had to carry our luggage around the terminal while we searched for a gate that was not clearly marked. They rescheduled me for a flight 9 hours later, and I had to pay 8000 rupees=aprox $180? I was too tired to argue I just wanted to get to my sick mother who is in the hospital. It was unbelievable the kind of service the national flag carrier of India provides.
The plane itself was disgusting and filthy; you could hear the old 747 creak as it taxied its way onto the runway. The food was plastic and rubbery and almost moist. I could not bear myself to fly Air India again, so for the return I decided to have mine changed to Lufthansa, absolutely no problems.
