A Nice Music Album!

Even though I was extremely critical of the story of the movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and did not really like the movie either, the songs of the movie definitely deserve appreciation. Pritam with Amitabh Bhattacharya has delivered another chart-buster album, however, I am not so sure about the originality of the music.

The title track of the movie sung beautifully by Arijit Singh has been dominating the air-waves ever since its release and it is definitely a good track. The song is sung with pathos and you can feel the emotions in Arijit's voice( much like KK's). The use of instruments in the song is impeccable, though, the song is on the slower side. Not as good as Arijit's previous love songs, this song still deserves a look-in. The use of trumpet, cello and violin in the song is just about perfect. The lyrics of the song are probably the best part about this track. Bulleya by Amit Mishra and Shilpa Rao is a Sufi-rock song with eclectic guitar-riffs adorning it. Amit's raw voice is well-balanced by Shilpa Rao's mellowed down and soothing vocals.

Channa Mereya is the third track of the movie. In the voice of Arijit Singh, this song has a compelling combination of acoustic guitar, electric, bass and guitar dholak, sarangi and shehnai. The song is slow-paced, however, the haunting voice of Arijit Singh remains with you. The only upbeat track in the movie is the The Breakup Song. In the voices of Jonita Gandhi, Arijit Singh and Nakash Aziz, the song has funky lyrics and a rap portion rendered by Baadshah. Arijit has sung his lines well, however, it is the energetic vocals of Nakash which makes this song hip.

Overall, the movie has four good songs and almost all the songs are well-written. I cannot comment on Pritam's originality while composing the music of the movie. However, the album is surely one of the best of the year.
