Information

Himachal Pradesh, state in India, occupies a region of scenic splendour in the western Himalayas offering a multi-tiled view of snow-clad mountains, thickly forested valleys, deep gorges, etc. This is it rightly named, reference to its setting, Himachal means "snowy slopes" and Pradesh means "state". Shimla is the capital of this state and Hindi both the official language and the lingua franca. However, Pahari is most-spoken by people in everyday conversation, which includes almost all western Pahari dialects. Himachal Pradesh was also called as "Dev Bhoomi". In early period, it was home to tribes like Koilis, Dagis, Dhaugris, Dasa, Halis, Khasas, Kinnars and Kirats. The Aryan influence in these areas date even before the period of Rigveda. Beauty of Himachal Pradesh is by being a part of Indian Himalayas. It has wide valleys imposing snow mountains, limpid lakes, gushing streams and serene rivers. All of this is because this state is bordered by Jammu & Kashmir to the North, Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the East, Uttarakhand in the Southeast, Haryana to the South and Punjab to the West.
