Information

Assam is an Indian state that is located in the north-eastern part of India and it is one among the Seven Sister States in India, the other six being Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya. The state shares a global border with Bangladesh and Bhutan, and as a result, its people, culture, and climate are like those of South-East Asia, which consists of the components in Look East policy of India. Bode and Assamese are the regional languages of Assam and the next most speaking language in the state is Bengali, which is an official language, as well, in some districts. Assam was mentioned by the Chinese trader Chang Kien and had trade links with China in 100 B. C. The Ptolemy Geography and Periplus of the Ethyrean Sea has also acknowledged the existence of this state even before Christ. It was Mongoloids who entered these regions through mountainous passes in the East and overrun these lands before the times of compilation of Hindu religious literature known as Vedas. Assam is most celebrated for silk and tea, and the state has the credit of featuring the first Asian oil well, Digboi. It is also famous for one-horned rhinoceros, which cannot be found in any Indian state. It is also an abode to pygmy hog, wild water buffalo, tiger and different species of Asiatic birds. It offers one among the last wild homes for the elephant in Asia.
