Vanishing Acts- Fake it Until you Make it!!!

Your father is arrested for kidnapping. You were the child he stole.

As they say, the first impression is the last impression; I share the same gesture for this book: “Vanishing Acts”. Jodi Picoult is someone who can detach a person from everything except her valuable asset: Writing. I’m amazed how come she writes so well. She’s a wizard who knows what one would like to read when turning the next page. Her writing skill is impeccable. She conveys the most heart-warming lines in play of words. Be it her rebelliousness script or wheedle relationship between family members, she has an art of conveying the best in reaching many through her blissful writing.

Yeah, I’m thinking about family, relations, emotional bond and harshness of life. She has left me spellbound. I don’t have any idea how will I set myself free from her magic. The time when I read “My Sisters Keeper” she left an impression of turning it into a poem. This time, nonchalantly, she has left me engulfed in my own thoughts. I wish, I could have conveyed my feelings in the same way as she did. It was fiction but how does it matter as long as I can relate it to myself.

It’s a story of three friends, Eric, Delia and Fitz. They are living happily in New Hampshire, until Delia comes across unforgiving experience of her life. She’s 28 years old and working as a rescue officer. She loves to find lost people. She has a daughter named as Sophie and Dog, Greta. She has lost her own identity since the day police has arrested Mr Andrew Hopkins.

Eric: An alcoholic, who is deeply in love with Delia. They are engaged. Delia cannot marry him as he doesn’t give up drinking. He loves her immensely and wishes to be with her all the time. He worships Delia. She’s an angel who has been with him during his bad and good times.

Delia: is a beautiful soul on this earth. She has never committed any sin in her life. She is the one who has been suffering during all the trials and tribulations. Life can be cruel at times. It doesn’t give everything as you expect out of it. Sometimes, it turns out to be harsh reality where you wish to run away but you cannot. You have to accept certain incurable things in life.

Fitz: Is madly in love with Delia. He cannot make a choice of choosing Delia or Eric. Both are equally important to him. He doesn’t want to let anyone go. How one can sacrifice for someone whom he loves the most, it seems to be difficult. Sometimes, sacrifice is the best choice one can make to save the life of everyone associated with him/her.

Andrew Hopkins: Delia’s father. He has been arrested by Police. He has committed the crime 28 years ago. He has been caught by the police for committing a crime of hiding his own daughter. He wants to save his family. Sometimes, he’s like a tourist seeking a place where nobody can reach him and sometimes he’s a stranger who has been running from his real identity.

To find out more, I would recommend you to read this gripping and thought-provoking novel.
