Iqbal and Perumazhakkalam were the only two Indian movies nominated for Flim festival at Goa. When Nages was asked which was the best he had seen in the film festival he said 'Ironically perumazakkalam was the best movie in the film festival. Its a beautiful movie'. He was clearly overwhelmed by the... movie. Any director who sees that movie would die to make it. As far as the movie goes perumahzkkalam deeply affected me. Performances of Meera jasmine and Kavya were mind blowing. Possibly one of the best i have seen from Indian actress. I certainly can vouch no pair of actresses could outdo this brilliant performances. Nagesh must have done well. But still you cant help comparing with original.Read More

I agree totally with your analysis on Heroine. Two words. Sadha Sucked. And also your mention of how the story was recyled 100th time by Shankar and how misfit Vikram was in iyengar character. Don't you think Shankar has made some elementary errors in making this film? Especially in developing the p...lot. If you look at Indian, Gentleman, Anniyan.. in all three movies there would be a detective or cop pursuing the villain. Charan Raj, Nedumudi Venu and Prakash Raj. Of all three this character is the least effective i must say. That too in clownish outfits for inexplicable reasons. Whatever may be i still don't like Vikram's voice. It is not something resonating like Surya's. But hey... we can only only talk with what god gives us. I am also not impressed with Vikram's accent. You may want to read my 'over the top' review! I do not understand how you cannot like Johnny depp's acting!! He exquisitely fit into that role. Even when i was in India i never try to relate movies to my real life. It never works that way. YOu think people stopped bribing after watching Indian? No. It is a matter of conscience. Don't accept bribe, Dont bribe all those things have been preached to us since the days of MGR!! I have also gone ...through all the hardships that is being said here. It is bound to happen in a country that is full of people. Not all people are hell bent on trying to get things by hook or crook! If you are referring to the director Shankar sure i agree!! He is bent on making money by hook or crook! I watch movies just as a movie. Not a documentary. Kadhal, Ram those movies had compelling screenplay. Here there are obvious logical errors which i cannot digest. If i want to watch a social movie i would rather watch unnaly mudiyum thambi. For your info i am a regular contributor of Udavum karangal and infact i offered to bear the educational expenditure for a kid. If you are good good things will happen to you. You don't need a movie to tell you. After anniyan do you see guys going on one side of the road? NOO!! Only way you can regulate traffic is by imposing law. No other choice. Are you saying Singapore, Japan, USA do't have prisons coz all the people are good!! The top level comparison of two countries will not give you anything. India is such a complex country. Yet India has signifciantly improved in the last few years. Last year India's jobless rate hit an all time low. India does make lot of progress. Giving message is an excuse for Shankar. He simply lavishly wasted so much money in this movie. To make a social movie you don't need 28 crores. You don't need 28 crores to tell us that there are some people who idle around and they should be punished! I can show lots and lots of guys in U.S who don...'t do anything but live off social security benefits. Most of the money they get are the earnings of Indian software engineers. Haven't they progressed. India is such a big country with states like Bihar, Uttarpradesh who refuse to improve. But souther states of India have made significant progress. Out of all the countries how come India is churning out so many software engineers? India does make progress. But owing to population and diverse culture there are bound to be bottlenecks. What shankar says is an amaturish point which even a 10 year old guy can make. If you tell me that this movie has taught you a message that you never know you should be ashamed of yourself. You don't need a movie to see all these things. Message? My foot! It is annoying when i hear 'Message' from the directors! Message have to be subtle if at all. It should not be like preaching. Vikram is a solid actor. But to say that he portrayed the roles perfectly is an over statement if you are not a vikram fan. Coz he is not convincing as brahmin. His saying of 'nandini nandini' It was plain irritating. His role as Remo was also not convincing. He is just passable as Anniyan. Vikram ...is better suited for roles in movies like Dhool, Kasi, Sedhu, Gemini. His voice is a serious handicap for intensity roles so much so it had to be modulted! Arjun, Surya have very good dialogue delivery compared to Vikram in serious roles. Sadha looked so mediocre. In some scenes i couldn't bear to see her acting. Only solace was vivek's comedy. Finally i just say it is mediocre movie at all levels. Who am i to tell you not to like it. For me it is just a steretyped story made into a film using 28 crores! How many movies like this we have seen. All he needed was Sidney sheldon's novel and his old movies to make this garbage. How can Remo keep a bike! Hoe can Remo have a job with Ambi in Court? How can he send 100s of flowers without anyone's knowledge? How is it possible for Sadha not to be able to identify that Ambi and Remo look alike? How is the court so empty for a case like that? How can a judge let this guy go jus...t by looking at a video? How was he able to be present both at Thirvayur and at the place where he fries a guy! How is it possible that no one noticed his transormations for such a long period! The cops trace all five IPs are from same address! But one of the Complaint was registered at anniyan.com was outside his house! Sorry to ask. Did you watch with your brain inside? Coz these flaws were so obvious. He failed as a director at all levels. Failing to notice them are surprising.Matrix fight sequence! I have watched an array of chinese movies where they use freeze frame techniques at all angles and matrix. There is a defenite discoloration in freeze frame shots. The imitation of fight sequence is just 1% of my total complaint. I am even willing to forgive the needless fight sequence where an untrained fighter makes mince meat of 100s of trained guys! Next thing is message. how can you be impressed by a guy who commits an innocent person. He may be idle all his life. Is that a reason enough to kill a guy? To portray that all people shout unanimously 'kill him' is beyond logic. Probably you guys don't know the value of a human life. In real life you don't go out to such a meeting unless you are totally jobless! So accordingly there is a contradiction! Vikram should supposedly kill everyone in that room! That is why 'that autograph hunting' scene is all the more stupid! You have no right to kill a human being according to all epics. So the characters Shankar have created have no consistency. 'i believe you are the very first person and could be the last one in the world to calculate time periods for existence and switch-overs in multiple-personality disorder, ' I am not holding a phd in psychiatry to decide on when to turn into a different personalities. But i am sensible enough to k...now that you don't get thrown off when your personality changes. Hope you are not dumb enough not to understand it. You cannot break a frozen ice pack just coz your personality changes! It is a ridiculous scene along with host of other fighting sequences. Using your own argument i tell you one thing. You say theoritically it is not possible to know when you switch between personalities. In that case how on earth he would convene 1000s of people in a stadium at a particular time. He books a stadium. He pastes poster all over the city singlehandedly! People leaving all their work aside come to attend his meeting like watching a cricket match! He shows a gruesome murder of an innocent guy on big screen infront of TV crews(I don't know how he managed to garner everyone there). Why does he kill. Coz he is not doing anything living off his parents. What is his next target Paris hilton? She doesn't have a job too! How can he compare a country like Japan to India. India is 7th biggest country in the world with 1000s of dialect 100s of languages, 100s of cultures. India is such a complex country also a highly populated country. Shankar is talking like a 6th standard guy! Only when you are around 14 or 15 you would be making this stupid comparisons. His split personality concept is a direct lift from Sidney sheldon's novel. Thanks people. Gurinder chadha spent less money for 'Bend it Like Beckam' than Shankar spent for Anniyan. But bend it like bechkam made 36 million dollar in screening alone excluding DVD sales and rental. Shankar spent more than that. Will shankar be able to go anywhere close to that! Absolutely no...! Oflate i do not like Maniratnam. But one of the thing i like about him is, he won't unnecessarily have song sequences in some weird country. He gives importance to character development as well as plot development. When you cast 10 persons you must make sure all 10 get their due. Every character in a movie should have a telling impact on you. For instance in Mouna Raagam starting from Mohan, Karthik, Revathy even that Sardhar create a lasting impact. One of the reasons Dalapathy got mixed reviews at the box office was Maniratnam did not focus only on Rajini. He gave evreyone in the movie their due. Mamooty, Banupriya, Shobana, Charuhasan. A successful movie maker should be able to pay attention to every little character in a movie. He cannot focus on just the main character and leave the other characters hanging. Shankar focused only on developing one character. He forgot about others. He forgot to pay attention to little details like courtroom scene at the end. It was mediocre. If 1000s of people come to watch Anniyan at the stadium, there must be 10000 people there watch the case. I cannot accept people saying 'forget the logic take the message'. It is totally unacceptable. When you make a movie spending close to 7 million dollar and you make it for close to 2 years, you expect close to perfection in every aspect. His message is utterly barbaric that is a different matter. He failed at both fronts. I am not a fan who settles for mediocrity just coz he spent 28 crores.Read More

knmurli crosswire thanks. My argument is purely from a cinema making point of view coz message he is trying to convey is not new and the method to execute to convey that message is utterly barbaric. According to the depiction of 3 characters we are supposed to sympathise with Ambi, Emphathise with... Anniyan and Fall in love with Remo! None of this happens! Infact Ambi is very annoying infact giving everyone problem. Anniyan character is the most hated character as he is directly responsible for deaths of people who have families. Remo character makes me puke! Actually i sympathised more with Charlie, Car driver than these characters! This is where Shankar fails massively.Read More

I am not really into movies with messages accompanied by violence. They have to be subtle like in KB movie Unnal mudiyum thambi. Ambi character is supposed to be perfect citizen. Did he do anything useful in the movie? Infact he is a burden to everyone. One of the crazy thing was he would order ever...yone in train not to eat food. They would promptly give away the food. Would you do that if a crazy stranger ask you not to eat? We have seen enough movies preaching what to do what not to do. No matter what ,one has no right to take anyone's life. There are billions of plotholes in the movie. I am an avid movie follower who would look for technical perfection in a movie. Plot development, character development should go hand in hand.
