Short Movie Reviews

Posted on Jun 02, 2008 under Short Movie Reviews

There was only one way to deal with the 44 degrees centigrade in Amdavad. Going to movies.

RACE: First half very boring... You feel like sleeping. You desperately want to be the truck driver so that you could really finish Saif off.

Second half is a whole different ballgame altogether. You still feel like sleeping because you can't handle the absurd twists coming at you at breakneck speed. In fact you feel like watching all the twists planned for the next seventy five years of Indian Cinema - squeezed into this second half. At some point, you try not to make any sense out of it and resign yourself.

RACE is not a thriller - it is just too many twists spoiling the broth. My rating would be 2 out of 5.

Next we went to Vellitthirai (Vendi Thera - silver screen) - a movie based on the struggle of two upcoming cinema technicians holed up in Kodambakkam. While the movie's entertainment factor is firmly concentrated in the last twenty minutes of the movie (which incidentally is a rip off of Bowfinger.), the rest of the movie is quite good - It is serious drama. And thankfully there's no Vadivelu to spoil the experience. A very nice movie - I would rate it 4 out of 5.

No Cell Phones...

Posted on Jun 02, 2008 under General

On Saturday I drove all the way to a CoffeeDay outlet to purchase tickets for the Sunday evening rendition of Evam's The Odd Couple - a play I have been waiting to see for a long time. The tickets cost me 250 rupees (500 rupees ticket 50% discount). Happy that I got a great deal, I went back home - woke up the next morning and completely forgot about the play till 6:30pm. Who is the culprit? I failed to register a reminder on my phone. So it had to be me. I am so dependent on this "reminder" feature that my brain has gone to Hawaii for vacation.

Technology has crept into our lives in a big way.
It doesn't mean you HAVE TO use it all the time. Use your brain occasionally. Otherwise it will get rusted.

I am so fed up of this debacle that I've decided to live without the cell phone from now onwards. I want to get my life back... So strictly no mobile after office hours.
