'Let Better Sense Prevail'

What you see above is a so-called one-liner review from "smartgirl" who purportedly is wife of the CEO of mouthshut.com and as you see she has written a one-line review on the CEO himself. Wow!!! That's so sweet.

Circa Last week of april. To be precise April 29th, 2008. A Mouthshut member writes a review on another mouthshut member. The pretext was some sports personality if you all remember. What we get to know next is that the review was deleted with the justification that “You cannot write a review on a fellow MSian (mouthshut member)”. Acknowledged. Agreed. Acted upon. Review was once again posted in another category.

I wonder why “smartgirl” has to post that one-line review then. What made her do so? Isn’t that a review on a fellow MSian, considering the CEO and his pretty wife regard themselves like us, a mouthshut member? What possibly could be the rationalization for such an act of pretense to ban a member to write a review on another member and obligate yourself to do the same down the line?

P.S. The two members in question above (one who wrote and the one who was written about) aren’t aware of this post. Apologies to both if I did not take permission. Although I saw this and I had to say this. Period.

Loose Control.....

Posted on Jun 03, 2008 under Personal

I sat at the desk, trying to ignore time, trying to ignore the changes in the surroundings and on web and let my thoughts coil and uncoil in the dungeons of my mind. It was Friday and hoped for a better week ahead. But I had forgotten that there always have been something manic about Mondays as far as that song and my case goes.

I have been exorcising demons, battling ghouls, making my way around, but somehow, some strange wind has made its way into the locked tombs and disturbed those pages, creating storms and confusions. I do not depend on it to make me going, I do usual things - watch movies, hang out with friends, engage in mindless debates, sit in pubs & lounges and carry out chores, but behind the facade of routines and normal activity, there is a sense of unrest.

I would not say my life revolved around you but yes you did use to bring a freshness in my routined week days life. I think one of the most painful thing about breaking up a relationship – any relationship- is the way it drags on as we try and morph it into different shapes, trying to slowly adjust to the fact that the one person(thing) who was once the most important being in our lives, is now going to be just another face(thing) around the corner.

My mind still holds traces of you. It is our tale which could have been 'once upon a time' tale. But It isn't.

Any body looking at me (I am still sround) might feel that I am happily mingling whereas I am sadly singling. I still have the withdrawal symptoms. I had promised you I will not fall in love with you. So yes, I am keeping my end of the promise. I do not love you. Love you? Me? Really, whatever gave you that idea?

The only way I could drive these away is through writing (the reason which introduced you to me) and I have been scribbling (yes, I am thinking of going pen and paper way) my thoughts.

Trust-Worth-Y-List

Posted on May 20, 2008 under General

I have tried cleaning and purging and cutting and slashing and many other figurative things with the Friends' list and the alerts. Checked and double checked, every two months at the number of people reading, responding, commenting on things I write of and words that I float around this place.  I just finished a year on MS and was delighted to see the Friends' list grow to a 100 plus. It looks like a long time ago when I used to despair that I had no one reading me.

However, I have overreached myself, it seems. There are an abundance of people on the friends' list right now. And once the shocking euphoria of having so many people subsided, I realized that I can’t take it. The reasons are simple and few.

1. I want to have a sense of who is reading the review/diary and who is not. I don't mind if a lot of people who are reading it don't comment all the time. But there are many who have been completely silent. And I don't see any reason as to why they should be cluttering up.

2. As more and more random people and people I start knowing in real life also start reading me, it becomes imperative that I start various filters. A lot of my personal posts from now might be Friends only, in which case I wanna know if you care enough.

3. I too don't have enough time to read through everybody's posts, which means that I am already doing a certain selection of people I want to read. However, I want to know who is reading me so that I don't cut out anybody and vice versa. Please do let me know any which you feel that I should not read you. I don't wanna hurt anybody, I just wanna make life a little simpler.

So that's about it. Please comment to this post. Say aye, say no, say anything. If you want to be removed from my friends' list but haven't figured out a way of telling me about it, just lemme know now! No hard feelings either way.

I am aware that a lot of the people on the list do not read MS everyday...so I am going to keep an eye on this post for a week or two and after that the people who haven't said a word will just be dropped (unless I reaaalllly love them and have my own personal reasons for it)

Thanks all, who have survived my cuts...Thanks all, who have sustained interest in my completely insane set of ramblings...

Thou Shall Treat Diary As Blog From Now On

Posted on May 13, 2008 under Personal

In the middle of a completely unexciting so-late-night that it was almost early morning, when I had to be at work on a Sunday, when I had absolutely nothing to do apart from making my presence known to the people while laying leisurely in the chair, listening to music with eyes half closed while the open part surveyed the imaginary circles drawn by the crossed legs, refusing to let the mind out for its walk and pee all over the past, my phone screamed. Not being unused to odd hour calls I was hardly amused but for number displaying being unknown at odd hour certainly increases the mercury in me. However I picked the call and was brought back to normalcy when the caller turned out to be a friend. Stick to cell phones I preached always. Few nocturnal species do not give a hoot. Anyways as she asked me to write a pressing piece for her by 6ish for Mid-Day on a topic whatever-you-feel-like, I could not care for anything else. She knew I was her saving grace at the moment when everything gets defunct.

I wasn’t in a mood to power on the machine I had been looking whole previous day. But I wasn’t left with a choice. Many would agree that once you get online you feel like doing thousand things. Now that I was online, I thought lets login to G-mail/G-talk. Ok, now let’s login to Orkut. Requests accepted and rejected, scraps replied. Move on. IBNlive.com, browsed through. Same old news. They haven’t updated it. Next refuge is Rediff.com. Click on movies. Search for Raja Sen’s latest biased review on the latest release and head straight for the comments to see if he has replied to people's comment. I never commented in his space neither I had rediff ID ever. I just used to read all the comments posted by people. Ok, for the uninitiated Raja is/was (?) reviewer on Rediff for latest releases and he writes/wrote well. I was regular to his reviews and read all comments and observed the interaction those souls of all varieties indulged themselves is. My only source of fun on internet other than reading E-Novels was to scan through Raja’s space. I was his fan and also hated him for its biased opinions. His review on the last Friday release to that unexciting Sunday morning was creating ruckus and I had joined the bandwagon too. I chanced upon a comment left by another film enthusiast taking Raja to task and ending the comment with line that is embarked in my memory: “Raja, what you have written here is a trash and if you want to know how reviews are written, I invite you to read my review on same on Mouthshut.com” and followed was a link.

I clicked and entered this world and became a part of it ever since that unexciting Sunday morning brought me here last year on 13th May, 2007. I had never heard of this site. No, I did not notice it behind auto which I was told by many members when asked how they got to know of this site. I am often asked how you could not be aware of it. I often wonder how?

As I was writing long before I got to know, after creating the profile I pasted my work one by one same day and the next day too. I did not know the happenings here and was happy to see my name taking away all the places on home page. I told myself, Wow, this is interesting. The first person who spoke to me was Usman (ID was JBZ7879, heard he is been kicked out after many abuses hurled upon him), he asked how come I am writing so many so soon and few others asked too. I replied this is my saved old work and am just pasting under the respective category as all of them were movie reviews. I could never write on anything other than movies. I also remember when I posted my first review (Bheja Fry), I went and commented in my own review that as this is my first review on this site, I am pampering myself by putting comment in my own review. Gosh, I was so naïve.

However I confess I am as excited about it today as I was that day. In a long time, I was in a moment when I was alone and not lonely, without work and not worried, at peace and smiling to myself as the slow summer breeze whistled through the window. I look back at the year gone by and I feel the same I felt on that unexciting Sunday morning. I am happy and I am at peace.

P.S. I never went back to Raja's space as I find MS much better and reviews here are mostly unbiased.

To Hell With It

Posted on May 07, 2008 under General

Long before I started writing on MouthShut, I used to write reviews of Bollywood releases and some random stuffs on Bollywood and forward it to my colleagues, family and friends (which I still do). And trust me I have got few out there who unfailingly read mine and give their feedback on regular basis. One of them is my classmate from college days Pavan. Last night he sent me a mail stating, “Looks like someone flicked ur concept” and a link was there in the subject line. I opened it and was quite amused to read what link had to provide.

I wrote an article on New_Generation_Directors_In_Bo
llywood on Dec 06, 2007. The idea was to write on those directors who were just one film old and were coming up with their second movie in the year 2007. The link to my article is:

http://www.mouthshut.co
m/review/New_Generation_Directo
rs_In_Bollywood-135756-1.html

However, the link of IndiaFM which Pavan sent me has an article based on the same concept which I had written earlier on. This article graced the site on Dec 31, 2007 and was written by some Joginder Tuteja. Of course, he hasn’t copy-pasted but the concept is out and out mine. The link to his article is:

Can we do something about this? I guess not. Internet is like a Khuli Kitaab and the stuff here can be easily accessed, used and distorted according to your need. Is being on internet is getting dangerous? Is being on these networks and sharing personal information, catching up with old friends and hooking up with new ones, dangerous? Is the web with its anonymity such a huge threat? Are we really a risk when we share personal and professional information online? Is it time to cut off the chord, switch off the computer, lock the door and never step back on the information highway? But there is something about the seductive nature of the internet that makes us drop this long learnt virtue and enter into states of revelation that we otherwise would look upon as unthinkable.

What happens to your creativity then? Is creativity for free? Aap likho aur baaki sabke liye free. Huh!!!

Editing after reading few comments that link is not opening: I pasted the link again and if still not then please go to my reviews and check directly.

Lassi Jaisi Koi Nahi...

Posted on Apr 10, 2008 under Random

Do I need to tell what is it or how is it made? Naah, go check google or wikipedia. Now, after you all have gobbled up the advice 'to beat the summer heat' by Ramya and had mouthful of Golgappas which were served yesterday, now is the time to rejoice the most favored drink of summer: LASSI.

I do not know what to say about it actually. Let me say few things at least.

Advantages of it:

1) Low calorie. So no fear of getting those paunches.
2) Color is white. Soothing to eyes.
3) Filling. So no side effect on ur dieting regime.
4) Cheap. Best thing to order on a date.
5) Bhang Lassi can do wonders.

Oh yea one more thing, 'Vrindavan', is the abode of super duper Lassi. The pics are taken there itself. I was there last week and trust me it was an experience in itself to see the lassi-making process (using hand ones and not machine ones) and then have it in those kullahds. After having super duper chaat in the Delhi's Bengali Market, having Lassi in Vrindavan is nothing less than a bliss.

I know there are thousand other places in India where in you get the super duper Lassi. So, pls do let me know the palce/street/town/city/ wherein you get super duper Lassi which ever part of country you belong to. I will take the print out of this post and will keep it with me whenever I am travelling as Lassi and good chaat joints are the two things I look out for first thing at any place.
