All India Music Competition 2008

Posted on Apr 07, 2008 under General

Prayag Sangit Samiti was founded in the year 1926. The Samiti is an Organization registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act of 1860. It was founded with the sole aim of propagating and popularizing the cause of Indian Classical Music in the country. Since its very beginning the Samiti has been striving hard for the propagation and elevation of the status of music, bringing about a new change in the activities relating to music and giving it an identity and feeling of self-realization to musicians and students of music.
On a reviewing of and scanning the past stages of change in the History of Indian music, patrons of music, considering the dimensions and intensity of the change, will realize that notably Prayag Sangit Samiti helped throughout its existence to bring about this renaissance. Samiti has been playing the role of a torch bearer in the world of classical music and it can legitimately pride itself in having, achieved high reputation for consistently upholding the highest and richest traditions of this sublime art. The Samiti is housed in two imposing buildings of its own, one situated in the heart of the city in South Malaka and the other in the sylvan surroundings of the Alfyed Park.
It stands exclusively to the credit of the Samiti that music in the country now stands recognized as a subject of study by the U. P. Government and other State Governments of the country. Its diplomas and degrees are recognized by a number of State Governments, educational bodies and Universities. The Samiti has constructed a beautiful Muktangan, an Open Air Theatre - a cultural dream land, with its terraces, grassy beds, flowers and innumerable water fountains in varied hues in the promises of Alfred Park Building. The Muktangan is spread in nearly half of an acre of land, neatly completely turfed as a soft green carpet, colonnade in several expansive galleries. It has flower beds an all sides and having small bridges over the watery tunnels, is very nice beauty spot. It is a place, where people forget their worries, sorrows, sufferings and the mundane humdrum living. The low realigned bridges bridge the gulf between the ancient and modern. The foreigners proclaim the Muktangan as the first of its kind in the East.
In the All India Music Competition there is one SPECIAL GROUP in which even the professional singers can also particitae if his/her age qualifies. In vocal (classical) three ragas are alloted which have to be memorized by the parcicipants fully with Vilambit & Drut Khayal comprising of 20 mins. This year the 3 raagas were - Puriya Kalyan, Kedar & Rageshwari. Next 10 mins is alloted for a THUMRI of own choice by the participant. I was one of the competitor with immense dream in my eyes to compete at PRAYAG SANGIT SAMITI in Allahabad. I nurtured this dream for last 2 years sacrificing some of my family wishes. But to my utter surprise & shock till date the authorised persons cannot say nothing about the commencement of the COMPETITION.
Now they opine that on 29th April the new Secretary will be elected who will take the final decision. NOW I HAVE NO DREAMS LEFT WITH ME TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PRESTIGIOUS COMPETITION ANY MORE AS IN MAY OR JUNE MY 5TH YEAR - FINAL EXAM IS TO COMMENCE. I KOW THE COMPETITION IS WITHHELD TILL NEXT YEAR. LIKE ME MANY MORE COMPETITORS ARE PERHAPS SHEDDING TEARS TO BE DEBBURED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ALL INDIA BASIS MUSIC COMPETITION 2008.

Why do we worship Tulsi ?

Posted on Mar 18, 2008 under General

In Sanskrit, tulanaa naasti athaiva tulasi - that which is incomparable (in its qualities) is the tulasi
For Indians it is one of the most sacred plants. In fact it is known to be the only thing used in worship, which, once used, can be washed and reused in pooja - as it is regarded so self-purifying.
As one story goes, Tulasi was the devoted wife of Shankhachuda, a celestial being. She believed that Lord Krishna tricked her into sinning. So she cursed Him to become a stone (shaaligraama). Seeing her devotion and adhered to righteousness, the Lord blessed her saying that she would become the worshipped plant, tulasi that would adorn His head.
Also that all offerings would be incomplete without the tulasi leaf - hence the worship of tulasi.
She also symbolises Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu. Those who wish to be righteous and have a happy family life worship the tulasi.
Tulasi
is married to the Lord with all pomp and show as in any wedding.
This is because according to another legend, the Lord blessed her to be His consort. Satyabhama once weighed Lord Krishna against all her legendary wealth. The scales did not balance till a single tulasi leaf was placed along with the wealth on the scale by Rukmini with devotion.
Thus the tulasi played the vital role of demonstrating to the world that even a small object offered with devotion means more to the Lord than all the wealth in the world.
The tulasi leaf has great medicinal value and is used to cure various ailments, including the common cold.
Yanmule sarvatirhaani
Yannagre sarvadevataa
Yanmadhye sarvavedaascha
Tulasi taam namaamyaham

I bow down to the tulasi, At whose base are all the holy places, At whose top reside all the deities and In whose middle are all the Vedas.

YOGA IN DAILY LIFE

Posted on Mar 18, 2008 under General

Is it necessary to practise Yoga living in total seclusion only? I am a housewife. Can I practise Yoga along with my other duties and obligations? ....... was my question to one Maharshi .............

He replied like this & explained the value of YOGA in our life :-

Ever be conscious of what purpose you are to fulfil in life. Know that the whole meaning of life is the utilising of its every moment to attain the supreme purpose. Yoga is union with the Divine. If you live your life in constant inner union with the Divine through a link of genuine love for the Supreme, then whatever you may do, wherever you may be, and in whatever manner you may be living, you are living a life of Yoga; for you are living with God, and you are at one with God in your inner life. Such a life of conscious effort to be for ever united with Him in love and devotion is Divine Life, a life of Yoga. If you are consciously trying to draw nearer and nearer to Him day by day, then you are living a life of Yoga, no matter what shape your external life might take. Everything has to be offered to God in worship and worship cannot be impure. Therefore, all your activities should be based upon truth, honesty and purity. Then those activities, when offered to God in worshipfulness, become Yoga. While doing her housework, the wife should dedicate everything that she does to God. She should say, "O Lord, for Thy love, for Thy glory, this is worship."
