That, one can never predict how an A.R.Rahman melody would flow in a song is common knowledge, but even by Rahman’s standards, the flow of the melody in “Phir Se Udd Chalaa” is stunning. Not a single phrase falls in line with your expectation. There is no groove to groove to. There is no hook to...Read more

Hi Rohit, Beautiful review on a great album. I heard it by downloading it from net. 'Mann Chandra' is such a divine piece of melody. Kural is little disappointing for Tamil fans, because we wanted the Tamil Kural to sound prominent but it is pushed behind. Btw, in Silent Invocation, the instrument i...s 'Tanpura' and not Sitar.... A.R.Rahman has always been fascinated by the rhythm sound of a train and there are not many who have used it in songs as interestingly as him. The fascination was very evident in the background score of Bombay much before the ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ thunder hit the world of music. In the movie Bomb...Read more

Paulsb02 - Thanks. Yes, the soundtrack raises a lot of expectations on the movie and especially I think Rang De Basanti is one movie in which a director used Rahman's song in the way it has to be used. Smile Sureshkumar

Rohitsiva - Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I wouldn't say the soul is missing but it is the simplicity in the melody that is missing. Most of them have problems with Rahman because his melodies offlate lacks simplicity, but that doesn't make them bad. Ofcourse, Oru Maalai and Suttum Vizhi S...udarae anyday are some of the best compositions of Harris Jeyaraj, but I completely hate these comparisons. Rahman has tried to bring out those same emotions in his music in a very different way but with equal success.Read More
