Guys, I think Database is not merely about data storage, it is much much more than that. Primarily an Enterprise database is not only about data storage but majorly about data access. Your data should be accessible and should be retreived at any point of your business cycle, even if the data has... been put into database some decades ago. what I mean is a good data warehouse wherein the warehoused data will give you same performance as that of current and running data. Warhoused data should also support transaction capabilities... this is particularly true in service industry like Insurance wherein a person takes a policy now and claims it after 25-30 years , by that time data is already warehoused .... I am big fan of MS.. but for database I sincerely do not think SQL server is at all a scalable database.. I mean stroring data and retreival is just not the function of a database these days ... I am happy about the fact that database is easily accessible from .Net env. About the ease of use of SQL server 2000, well an enterprise database is almost always maintained and touched by an expert... for whom ease of use is not that important.. as compared to sacalability and security .... As for us the developers well ADO is simple ....Read More

In databse for Distributed Transaction Support you must use ADO , but if your Database is not SQL but ORACLE, then ORACLE will have its own transaction manager, then MTS Distributed Transaction Support is actually not requi...Read more

I had graduated from this institute in the year 1998. Things have changed a lot from those times, apparently as always the case some changes might not be accepted but if u look into it in a much broader perspective it looks greener. When i graduated it was under Mangalore University and goes without... saying there were lots of people who had come down to study because of Management Discretion(U know what I am talking ? :-)). If you look into the education system of india for any college to maintain industry parallel curriculum and industry parallel infrastructures, the institute needs money. If UGC is till date is skeptical for giving grants to private colleges, it becomes obvious for any institute to demand money from some handful of students who can afford money. However as per education standards I have enjoyed every bit of it. All of us who wanted to utilise it have utilised it to the fullest in their lives( Most of them yes, I guess so). Has high ratings in abroad and recommendations from this college has some good values on number of universities in US. Higher education should be costly for the people who can afford it and for them to bear the burden of people who cannot afford it. As per not giving weightage to HSC marks, even IITs does that, u get a rank in the ITTJEE and even if ur HSC percentage is 50% u get a seat. Because these institutes beleives more on their ability to evaluate the suitability of candidates for engineering rather than relying on their HSC marks, I see no problem in this. It took really some time for this Institute to get a deemed university status (which the autorities were trying far before my days in MIT). Deemed university status should bring more exposure to this college and should give them more freedom to propagate the vision of education which they have to the rest of the world. Because of good industry relations and solid alumni in India and abroad the institute still enjoys very good placement activities. I wRead More
