Reviewed One Hundred Years Of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Mar 01, 2006 06:34 PM 3635 Views

(Updated Mar 01, 2006 06:34 PM)

I would probably describe One Hundred Years of Solitude as a perverse portrait of human life. That doesn't mean its any less true than the so-called human life we experience on a daily basis. The novel details the life of the Buendia family in the presumably Latin American town of Macondo. By...Read more

I watched home delivery mainly because it seemed different from the usual Bollywood fare (no morality judgements-we can rip each other apart some other time). The movie has a crisp clean look to it and is populated with zany characters who make you laugh out loud in shock, surprise and just plai...Read more

I want to say, if you are only going to see one woody allen movie see this, but I should probably say if you are only going to see one movie see this. At once, a rumination on the charm that movies hold for us, Allen is a wizard at contrasting it with dreary daily life and you really can't decid...Read more

It was to be expected that Jhumpa Lahiri would give the issue her full attention after tackling it piecemeal in the Interpreter of Maladies. The result is a book called the Namesake that is as confused as the lead character. Gogol Ganguli is named after Nikolai Gogol a russian writer. All his...Read more

The story of Minnale is an exercise in simplicity when compared to most mainstream indian movies. Madahavan likes riya(or is it raima) sen. Finds out abbas is coming down from america (funny how it's never the states of the u.s.a but always provincial America) to have a dekko at her. Lands up at...Read more

Mark Haddon's book starts out by being a nice whodunit with a special detective. Christopher Francis Boone has special needs. He is like aI dunno somewhat touchy special needs character. We tell ourselves, surely we can sympathise with that. As the book starts progressing and the special needs s...Read more

I generally hate books by Indian authors cause they talk down to you about a shimmeringly pure vision of india, beautiful yet held in chains by her own fallacies. Also the flowers in the hair exotica doesn't help too much- rohinton mistry's awfully painful books being a case in point. But after ...Read more

I really do think you are sadly mistaken. Your succumbing to peer pressure in reading wodehouse is probably responsible for your opinion. There are legions of wodehouse fans around hte world. Perhaps you would be kind enough to read evelyn waugh's quote about the wodehousian world. Also laughing gas... while an excellent book is hardly anybody's idea of a classic wodehouse. Read More
