Debate # 4 - Has SRK lost his sheen

Jul 17, 2013 05:38 PM

Continued And it is an important marketing tactic and even more important when the Star has just one movie for a year. I believe if Dabangg or 3 idiots had released even on a Monday and during the lean season it would have got a similar response. In Ranbir's case - Atleast for Rockstar , the s...cript was too good and movie gained momentum after the release. Again I would like to repeat - A time of its release does not have such a huge impact on its collection when compared to how well it is received by the massesRead More

Debate # 4 - Has SRK lost his sheen

Jul 17, 2013 05:32 PM (Updated Jul 17, 2013 05:33 PM)

Has he or hasn't he? Hi Ajeet, First of all let me make it clear that I'm not a fan of SRK, I never was. But I respect all artists. 1. Do you think SRK has lost his sheen? I think Every actor has a shelf life, the term 'Evergreen' is just for the books more so when stars do stereot...ypical roles and even when they over experiment with themselves. SRK for me had carved his niche in Romantic Dramas (or should I say melodramas), I believe that he lacks versatality (many may counter this argument) and a star who lacks versatility inevitably has a shorter shelf life. SRK had ruled the box office for quite some time but his grip has started to loosen since the release of Ra-One which though tasted Box Office success was pedestrian. I did not like Jab Tak Hai Jaan either even though it was a movie in his niche. And I believe he has passed the age of experimentation. The other according to me is the lack of age appropriate roles. Bollywood has never aged gracefully, You don't expect a 50 year old man to romance a 25 year old in real life. Bollywood should learn something from Hollywood in this regard, Actors like George Clooney, Sean Penn, Daniel Day Lewis has always done roles that suit their age. Not that an actor shouldn't try to do it, but doing it convincingly id what matters the most. If he has lost his sheen then he alone isn't responsible for that. The directors and writers working with him are equally responsible. 2) Do you think he should release one his film during off season time to check his popularity like Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor do? Akshay and Ranbir has tasted success whenever they release their films and are no longer dependent on the festivals. But the KHANS do depend. Ajeet ji, I would disagree with this because I believe irrespective of when a movie is released it is bound to do well at the box office if People like it and the movie has been marketed well. Festive season is an added bonusRead More

Abraham lincoln and Gandhiji, lincoln stand high, gandhi so low.

Jun 12, 2013 10:41 AM

What Rubbish .. continued 4. ''Jinnah who would have loved to integrate with rest of indian community spread all over other states.'' - OK Sir, Remember the ''DIRECT ACTION DAY'' ''LAHORE RESOLUTION'' . Please brush your knowledge of History! Jinnah though a great and galvanising leader had a sep...eratist agenda since the 1930's. Gandhi opposed it....States division on the basis of Religion would fuel a calamity, he said and yes it did happen ! 5. ''if i have to rate Gandhiji with Ambedkar and jinnah, gandhiji comes no where,he was a saint, fought for no cause, how can you fight againt guns.'' - How would you fight against guns ! with guns, yes ...but in a country where people struggle to make ends meet guns will create a greater economic imbalance ... History proves that Armed agitations has done very little good for anyone...Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, Ottoman Empire etc etc etc... 5. ''How many jews cried, fell at their feet, their tears never stopped but the German nazis just burnt them so alive.Ahimsa of Gandhiji if he had continued even after British left india, entier india would have been in flames.'' - Hitler was a dictator and the sad fact is that anti-semitism exists even now. And yes India burnt, but it was never due to AHIMSA, it was due to the seeds of seperation sowed by the British starting with the partition of Bengal by Curzon and then Separatist leaders like Jinnah !Read More

Abraham lincoln and Gandhiji, lincoln stand high, gandhi so low.

Jun 12, 2013 10:28 AM

What Rubbish ! Dear Mr. Bhoopalam, With all due respect Sir, what you are saying is ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH ! While I agree that Lincoln was a great man himself, there are a lot of things that you said in the blog which are completely baseless. First of all, 1. ''Abraham really fought agai...nst injustice caused to Black people who were called as Negroes, and he fought both British who loved slavery and wanted to make use of wealth of United states in forming.'' It was not Lincoln who fought against the British in the United States, it was George Washington and the rest of the founding fathers who did and it was in the late 18th Century while Lincoln lead the States in the American Civil War and it was not the British who supported slavery there it was the Confederate states. 2. ''Gandhiji fought for British army through indians in army.'' - Gandhi was no Mangal Pandey ! Gandhi toured almost the entire country to unify people and yes Indians in the British Army did support, but what made him the leader of the nation was the support of the common man. The guy gave our freedom movement a direction ! 3. ''only Ambedkar really fought against Gandhiji but the upper caste Hindus never accepted Ambedkar and he had to keep quiet,so also Jinnah who would have loved to integrate with rest of indian community spread all over other states.'' - Ambedkar never fought Gandhi. He wanted a seperate mandate for the lower caste which by his own admission was a step in removing caste based distinctions. Gandhi fasted against because it would have fueled divide which he never wanted. Look towards our country today, the caste and religion based distinction is the only reason indentity politics thrives in India and one of the reasons that we are still 'DEVELOPING'Read More
