Reviewed One Night at the Call Centre - Chetan Bhagat

(Updated Feb 06, 2006 09:01 AM)

One night @ the call center is Chetan Bhagat's second novel. Chetan Bhagat is an 'IIT-and-IIM' graduate, working in a US-based investment bank in HongKong. His first novel Five Point Something turned out to be a national bestseller. It is about the life of the elite and enviable youth of the cou...Read more

I had heard about this book a lot and myself being an IITian, I had a strong desire to find out what's in this book. I was more than overjoyed when an old friend presented me with Chetan Bhagat's ''Five Point Someone''. I finished reading the book in several hours during a long-haul flight, more...Read more

this review of imran on India hurts national sentiments and contains divisive and atrocious comments about our national integrity (especially the part regarding Kashmir), however direct or indirect those may be. I have been a MS member since 2002 but I dont get the time to visit this site and read r...eviews too often. But of course I read some and really enjoyed those. But this review is really outrageous. In the first place, I find it strange that MS has asked a review on a country like India. India is not a commercial product whose merits and demerits can be expressed and rated in a review. I am not saying this for India only, this holds equally well for any other country. Review on India as a tourist destination is OK, but then such review should be written only as fit for the purpose and screened by appropriate MS authorities before they are posted on the web for the world to view. Any comments that hurt national sentiments of any country should be edited from the review. I know reviews with editions will not be appreciated by many, but in certain cases which are too sensitive, this is a must. Imran has not written a review on India as a tourist spot. His intentions as plainly reflected in his writing, are politically motivated. Such reviews should not be allowed to appear on the web as such and should be edited. To hurt any country's sentiments, whether India or Pakistan or any other country, through postings on web site is distasteful. And it is equally shameful for Mouthshut to allow this to happen !Read More

the review was good as it dwelt not only upon the negative points but also the positive aspects the city has to offer. but i don't agree for some reason, that kolkata is much below par compared to rest of the Indian metropolis cities. to people making scathing attacks on bengalis and Kolkata, I woul...d say that you should look back at your own city first...and then as rightly pointed out, Kolkata has given India all that she has in her quota of nobel laureates. Even the Physics nobel laureate C.V. Raman worked in his Kolkata laboratory. But I do agree with the point that over the past twenty years or so, the communist government has destroyed the city and its charm and the city will suffer even further if the communists continue to stay in power in the state.Read More

I certainly do welcome any sort of constructive criticism. Yes, the description is a bit too long, as Grean pointed out. But my intention was not to write a history of BA but why I recommend this airline to others, and the reason was I had a good experience with this particular airline even as a fi...rst-time traveller. And I do think that everything I had written about BA DOES NOT necessarily apply to all international airlines. I have plenty of friends who travel in India-Europe-US sector and I do know that all international airlines are not punctual, neither is the quality of inflight service as good as BA. I don't want to take names here, but there are airlines which are frequently late which results in missing connecting flights and leads to a lot of other trouble and the airline staff have been known not to be very co-operative in such occasions. Also there are airlines where vegetarian meals are short, there are not enough meal options. All this I did not face in BA . Especially to Mr Grean, I would like to point out if you read the last paragraph of my review it basically sums up the good or bad points of BA, as far as I could cover.Read More

Cereals are supposedly meant to be taken with cold milk especially , as you said, to preserve their crisp taste and texture. But in India, people have the habit of taking cereals with hot milk. I do know of some Indians in the USA who have this strange custom of taking cereals with milk heated for ...2 minutes in the microwave....dont know from what angle they like those 'wooly' things floating in hot milk !!!Read More

Hi Prof Mohanty, I read your reviews on both Northwest and KLM and both were excellent reviews. I am travelling in the US-India sector by Northwest Airlines in a few months' time. One question I had always in mind is whether KLM and Northwest are the same or not. I do not know whether they are diff...erent names of the same company or are they related in some way. In your review, you have given a high rating to Northwest but a relatively low rating to KLM, so I wanted to know what's the difference between the two, I do know some people who say that both are essentially the same.Read More

I think the price in INR is misquoted as $65. I bought the cheap paperback edition for INR Rs 60 but that was way back. I don't know the price now, but the paperback cheap edition should not price as high as $65 !!!

I was just going through the comments posted here and I found that some of the commentators have confused leopards with cheetahs. Cheetah and leopard are different species of cat. Cheetah is a great sprinter and is known to achieve the fastest speed on land by any animal, is generally solitary, som...etimes lives in small groups. Its range is Africa. Leopards are found in Africa as well as in India. It is an extremely shy and solitary animal, the leopard is usually smaller in size than the cheetah but what distinguishes the two is their spots. The shape and design of the spots are different for leopard and cheetah. Read More
