Those who are suckers for Literary brilliance, show me a better author than Umberto Eco and Salman Rushdie, I will be honoured to read. For I have not read any more literarily inclined fiction than they writ. But then again, as someone pointed out, 'I haven't read books', perhaps. :) And ...if you are really of a free mind and don't mind poetry either, I'd suggest your read Dante's Inferno. (Purgatory and Paradiso too, if you can actually sit through). It is an epic write. Also try 'Astrophel and Stella by Sir Philip Sydney', a brilliant narration in sonnets.Read More

Oh, I So love debates... XD I made this list something like 3 or so years back, and it makes me smile reading it myself. I still hold a couple of those books are in my current top five list too. :) And the 'reviews' I wrote for each book reminds me of my naivety then, but the same enthusiasm and ...curiosity I have now. As for the comments, I find it pitiable how most people have an infinite appetite for baseless ad hominems. And they do not intimidate with their words, only reflect their own insecurity for their incarcerated minds and short sightedness. God bless. I don't find a terra firma why people reject Dan Brown as a good author. There ARE indeed very few who put in his amount of research behind every book. The detailing is tremendous. I shall always respect his wordplay and factual backing of the same. If you are actually not interested in how a Corinthian Column is different from a Doric, or haven't heard of the Lux Aeterna or De Prestigis Daemonum, nor will to look it up, Dan Brown is not your kind of author, but not for a fault of his. Pick up his book with an appetite for knowledge and a little curiosity, you will see my point. Harry Potter, I reaffirm is a very good book. It saw through our childhood, and made me yearn, atleast, to be apart of the magic. How can I deny its being a good book? You may disagree, but have no right to infringe my fantasies. Even the power of critique is not that invasive just yet... For those of you who are looking for some IQ, go read The Road to Reality by Roger Penrose, or anything at all by Robert D Barrow, Richard Dawking, Brian Greene and Fritjof Capra. If science is not much your scope, then atleast read 'The eternal golden Braid - Douglas R Hofstadter'.Read More

Ironic, though, snakes are the humblest and least dangerous of all reptiles, unless of course, instigated... They have found a 'Gulshan Grover' status among the reptilian abundance.... However, snakes and Ladders was the only game i played and never won... Never...Nil....Nada... The ladde...rs always seemed to evade me...The farthest i ever got was somewhere between 87 and 93... So after giving up the 'dicey' game, my memories of loss were rejuvinated as i read this review... But the read was another memorable experience.... Amazingly put together, compiled, expressed and edited,i must say... Abha(ji), you deserve a round of applause (And hissing too, for that may be the snake's way to say encore).... Firstly, let me extend my gratitude and humble thanks for taking time out to read , and even more so, to rate my review... As far as editing is concerned, i'll make it my 2nd priority JUST after review quality.... Hope that complies... So ur 6 month old 'Cubby' is ready to rock the theatres....... Nice experience for him, too... Also, thank him from me (Maybe in years to come) for it was because of him you read my review... Abhaji, I must risk to confer to you that, did you watch 'The Golden Compass' movie trailer??? All the special effects on the backdrop of a heavily dressed Daniel Craig was done right here in INDIA!!!! PIXAR could take a leak, the animation is MIND BOGGLING.... Only thing is that 'Hanuman(ji)' could not, with the help of all his powers, gather enough sponsorship.... The animation couldve been aeons ahead.... But lastly, i'd like to reveal a little secret of mine... I still prefer Hanuman in 2D, with his cute little avatar doing stuff onscreen... The 3D and effects take away the innocence, upto a LITTLE extent, i.e Thank You SiddharthaRead More

Thanks for your comments, first of all.... Now if i may be modest enough to mention, you may have misinterpreted the title.... 'The best 5 books in 'CHRONICAL' order'...... CHRONICAL, i made mandatory to include, so as to disregard comments not unlike yours Neeraj ji and Amkazmi..... The wor...ld itself rules out the possibility of your saying 'dan brown' over 'mario puzo'....Its just that I came to read the books in that order.... As for your attack on the genius of Dan Brown, quite honestly, i disagree. I know the order of publishing of Angels and Demons and DVC.... A person looking to draw parallels between the two, will indeed come out with a multitude.... i may have no right, but would insist upon your reconsidering the... grounds for criticising... Just saying out that Mr. Brown deserves no place in the top 5s doesnt make him legible for it either.... Consider this : Robert Langdon, the main char. in both books is an iconologist....If you want to see him in a backdrop of Science fiction, adventure, prose, family drama, romance or any other genre for that matter is quite unlikely to happen......Im not being sarcastic, only practical.....And a child guessing the books 'climax' halfway doesnt reduce its quality....Couldnt you guess that Michael Corleone would become the next don seeing as Santiono was dead, and Freddie was incapable.......Did that dampen Mario Puzos genius or the Godfathers intrigue.....At least for me, it didnt.....But you arent the first to dissect away at Dan Brown....Many critics and reviewers have done the same before..... Lastly, these were my favs. , maybe not the entire human populace's, and im sorry to being unable to live upto your expectations, but its our 'differences' that make us 'individuals', not our 'similarities......Read More

It's actually N O T 'bullshit' as you claim, my friend. As for the Battle of Thermopylae, its a real HISTORIC event. Xerxes HAS been depicted in a different fashion than he was but again, above the movie promo poster , just MAYBE, you forgot to read 'An adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic ...novel 300'. Miller portrayed him that way too, so not much option there. The Hot Gates WERE at war! Even some dialogues in the movie had been ACTUALLY said during the REAL battle! (Some have been adapted as mottos ny many CURRENT Military Organisations) Ephialtes of Trachis(The Traitor), Persian Immortals, Dienekes (The one who jests of fighting in the shade) are all HOSTORIC CHARACTERS too. But hey, dont take my word for it, just do a Wiki search and you'll come up with the real story. 'Its better not to tell the truth and destroy the STORY!' - Frank Miller in the novel 300. But still, I like your coment and want to share that ONE'S POINT OF VIEW.........IS SOLELY HIS OWN and NO ONE CAN CHANGE anyone's POINT OF VIEW.....Read More
