To Kill a Mocking Bird

Posted on Sep 28, 2008 under General

Today as i was reading the excellent revu by Arun on the book "To Kill a Mocking Bird", an alert popped up about one more blast in Delhi, this time in Mehrauli and that too caused by two young men on a bike who dropped an unidentified bag which unfortunately was found by a 10-yr old child. The bomb killed the child along with injuring several others.

Am sure the guys who dropped this bag are pleased with their cowardly act and are convinced to be in Heaven and once again the ridiculous Home Minister is preparing for another silly statement.
Have i become pessimistic.. ?? Naah but killing innocent children out of madness. now that is pathetic. I feel sorry for the parents of this child.

*sigh*

Mast Din Ki Shuruwaat

Posted on Sep 25, 2008 under General

Every evening, in between the US elections bakwaas, this Apple Macbook's Air tune kept me glued to the idiot box so much as to whistle it all night or whenever am even bit elated. Today i found the source of the tune and the whole song. Felt like sharing with friends here. Everything is beautiful about this one..

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

I'm a young soul
In this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

"SWADES" was based on...

Posted on Sep 08, 2008 under General

Last week, was told by the students from the local univ that Ravi Kuchimanchi was going to deliver a lecture. Wasn't aware who he was till I was told about.

So just thought of sharing just in case if you guys weren't aware.....

Every year, we do play cricket to support AIDINDIA, (me) not knowing how it was started.

Chaman Chammiya !!!!

Posted on Aug 20, 2008 under General

It so happened that one evening while coming back from work, i happened to listen to this song midway. From the moment the words of Mukunda Mukunda.. Krishna.. Mukunda Mukunda...fell on my ears, i was instantly enamoured by the tune and lyrics of this song. So much that
- tried all my efforts to relate what movie this song could be from? But in vain.
- next waited for the announcer on the radio to give some inputs. But XM Radio jockeys do not know or give a damn of the details of who, what, which abt the song.
- lastly after reaching home when i did my search/research, i realised that Chaman Chammiya... composed the music to this song from Dasavatharam....

Hmmmm.... Interesting!!

Tried to listen to Telugu and Tamil versions but could not connect as much but the Hindi one took me back to Mathura... literally.

When you are new, you have quite some tunes in ur armour.. but consistency and improvisation is something that makes one stand apart from the rest. Hope Chaman Chammiya gets to improvise and experiment more than just giving some junky err.. funky numbers. :)

Do not miss the video link below. Pleasant one.

THINK of the day

Posted on Aug 18, 2008 under General

Sometimes in the morning times on my way to work, while listening to Pandit Jasraj's Mandukya Upanishad always makes me wonder. "How much I learnt when I was with my grandparents or parents than from the schools that I attended?"

Couple of days back, a news item on laws to curb female foeticide in Madhya Pradesh reminded me of the story of Krishna's son from the Mandukya Upanishad. Krishna's son once dressed himself like a pregnant woman and asked a sage whether it would be a boy or girl. As is well-known(i think the sage was Vishwamitra), the enraged sage's curse destroyed the Yadava clan. My grandfather explained that the Yadavas were punished for not making fun of the sage but for inquiring into the sex of an unborn child. I was a kid at that time. I believed him and that is imprinted in my mind. I don't regret that I believed him but I always regret the company of such people who used to share knowledge not bookish but something that is very insightful.

Where The Mind is Without Fear

Posted on Aug 15, 2008 under General

WHERE the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
-- Rabindranath Tagore

Lets Pray for a more prosperous India on this "Happy" Independence Day.

Cleaning Mouthshut

Posted on Aug 01, 2008 under General

At times am ridiculed as a cleanliness freak. i like it though. But the way i look at it is as a way of living, no matter where. Whether its my room, bathroom, surroundings, my office, my laptop or even my online accounts.

Sometimes even make sure that don't keep hanging on to things no more use as often, some things like clothes, chaddars, kambals, etc. Only once tried to donate those things in US but was not much impressed with the response. So make sure to carry as much as i can in my bags back home(to DESH) and ask my folks to give those things to whoever can use.

"Minimalistic is the way to Go." :_)

So last week, one day i said to myself, am not making much use of my mouthshut account either. It is becoming more of a Luxury account, very rarely used. So thot, lets clear some mess up there. While doing so, realized that i had alerts for 100's of reviews/reviewers and some defaults ones on my own reviews and diaries.
It took me a good continuous half an hour to remove all those alerts as i had to select each checkbox individually. MS does not have a provision to select all check boxes at one shot. :-(. Another painful issue which was overlooked by MS testers.

I still have my alerts for M2Ms as some of the M2Ms are so genuine unlike Bulletins and contests which we have no control on/of. Moreover, most of my M2Ms are queries related to Yoga or nature Nirvana or eateries. So alerts definitely help to respond back. You can see, there are benefits of alerts too, but there is a limit to the way those alerts are controlled, ain't it?

Posted on Jun 29, 2008 under General

Recently, there was this talk going around of Katrina being the hottest female. But over the last few months, every time when i logged into MS, looking at this hottest profile all the time, i was wondering Katrina Kaif may be the most beautiful, cutest, sought after, etc perosnality in the glamour world, but not even Katrina can beat the hottest profile on Mouthshut.

Any guesses???????????????:_)

The hottest profile is that of our own Paul. :-)

Add a Comment to Get Smart

Posted on Jun 29, 2008 under General

This is for Faisal and team. (if et all anyone form the team take a peak)

MS is a great website, innovating all the time, trying to make sure that the current members are retained, newer members are encouraged enuf to vist again and trying hard to make the older members (even though not intersted much) to keep coming back every now and then to see whats changing and how/

But one thing that has been consistent is the Server Error. like the one in the attached pic while i was trying to GET SMART by adding a comment on a recent review by the_master on GET SMART.

There have been several of such errors before too. From the errors, it seems like all the website is using Microsoft technolgoies and AJAX. May be, Nik can be consulted to get rid of these :) and pay me suggesting the appropriate candidate. :_0
