Slap for Perfect 10

Posted on Apr 29, 2008 under General

Yesterday we read an excellent post from Indian that we are proud of our Scientists in ISRO launching a record 10 staellites in one go.Indeed it was a red letter day for all of us.
But if you are a net surfer or watched the news channels or read today's newspapers, Harbhajan's slap took precedent and was covered more extensively compared to ISRO'S achievements.
Sorry Scientists, we in India drink, eat & sleep cricket. Braving the hot sun we will stand in the queues to catch a glimpse of Dhoni.
Try your luck next time. May be when you launch 15 satellites again, you may get a better coverage & reception. But at that time if Yuvaraj & Dhoni walk the ramp, sorry again , we would love to see that.
In short, my dear scientists there is no space for you .......

Sadly yours........................

Girl@Logical thinking part-2

Posted on Mar 28, 2008 under General

Continued from part - 1

Well, here is what she did ....
The girl put her hand into the bag and drew out a pebble. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the ground  where it immediately became lost among all the  other pebbles.

She appeared to feel sorry for what she did and said. "But never mind, if you look into  the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which  pebble I picked." Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had picked the white one. And since the money-lender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an  impossible situation into an extremely advantageous one.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Most complex problems do have a solution. It is  only  that we don't attempt to think.
Does this mean only girls think................... Leave it open for discussions

Girl@Logical thinking part-1

Posted on Mar 28, 2008 under General

Many years ago in a small Indian village, a farmer  who had borrowed a huge sum of money from a village  moneylender was not in a position to return the money. The  moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer's beautiful daughter. So he worked out a good bargain.  He said he would forgo the farmer's debt if he could marry his daughter. The young daughter was shattered by his thought . So the cunning money-lender hit upon a plan to decide this matter. He told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty bag. Then the girl would have to pick one up from the bag.
1) If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven.
2) If she picked the white pebble she need not  marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven.
 3) But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail

The farmer had no option but to accept this proposal. The moneylender took them to a field to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two  black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.
Now, imagine that you were standing in the field. What would you have done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you have told  her?

Careful analysis would produce three  possibilities:
1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.
 2. The girl should show that there were two black  pebbles in the bag and expose the money-lender as a cheat.
 3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order  to save her father from his debt and imprisonment.

Take a moment to ponder over the story. The above story is used with the hope that it will make us appreciate the difference between lateral and logical thinking. The girl's dilemma  cannot be solved  with traditional logical thinking. Think of the consequences if she chooses the above logical Answers.

What would you recommend to the Girl to do?

Please think, continued.....................

Are Women special

Posted on Mar 07, 2008 under General

Some interesting facts.... In  the year 1848 a Prussian king had promised to make some unfulfilled reforms for women, this marked the beginning of woman's day.Subsequently lots of trade union activities started as women became increasingly aware of their rights. In 1910 a conference of around 100 women from 17 countries took place in copenhagen thus reviving the idea of women's day.  The first International Women's Day was officially celebrated on 19th of March 1911. There is another school of thought that  first Woman's day was observed on 28th  Feb 1909 in USA.
Demonstrations marking International Women's Day in  Russia was a part of the Russian revolution in 1917. Following the October Revolution, Lenin was forced to make it an official Holiday in Russia, but still continued to work until 1965. On 8th May 1965, by the decree of the USSR,  International Women's Day was declared as a non working day in  commemoration of outstanding merits of the Soviet women.

Today in some counties like Portugal, on 8th march, women only Parties  are celebrated.

Here's Wishing  all wonderful MS ladies a day that's every bit as special as you are.
A Very Happy Woman's Day to all of you.
Let's all take a Pledge to treat Women with respect & make them our equal partners of success.
cheers..............

Dil maange more........

Posted on Feb 25, 2008 under General

Mr.Faisal

All MSians must give a big hand to your TEAM for the new ideas your Team has conceived & points system you have introduced.

What is the gain………….

There are more number of diary posts than Reviews, reason being in diary we can write anything & everything whereas in reviews we are bound by select topics.

More poets have emerged, lots of write ups with high creativity

You have succeeded in bringing open the hidden talents & best out of MSian – Three cheers to you.

Lots of gifts exchanged, More harmony among the team.

What we want from you……….

Like review of the day , you can institute the diary of the day.

Best review & diary voted by your team daily, gets 500 points extra

Your team can recognize the writer of the month with some goodies, in line with what Nidhi had earlier suggested

How can we contribute more…………….

Like minded MSians can pool in for a good cause say sponsor a poor & needy child’s education etc…..

Like you got HDFC manager to respond queries, you can get a representative from an organisation for an online chat say once in a month to resolve the issues raised.

If any consumer product is consistently rated bad, it is brought to the notice of that particular Organisation, to take a note.

I am sure there will be many more ideas with my friends, leaving you with these quick thoughts……

My first Diary with Laws......................

Posted on Feb 21, 2008 under General

Here are Some Important Laws Which Newton Forgot to State

LAWS OF TRAIN RESERVATION : After deliberations you decide to get into one queue, you feel the other queues tend to move faster than the one you are in now.
LAW OF TRAFFIC JAMS: When you decide it is time to switch off your engine, you find the traffic starts moving.
LAW OF TELEVISION : Whenever you are viewing a channel you feel ,always the next channel shows the better programme
LAW OF LOCAL TRAINS(MUMBAIKARS) : Whenever you think of switching platforms to take fast trains, the fast local arrives 10 minutes late compared to the slow one which arrives 2 minutes early.
LAW OF MECHANICAL REPAIR: After your hands become coated with dirt, your nose begins to itch.
LAW OF BIG BOSS: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had  a head ache, the next morning you really  will have a head ache
BATH THEOREM: When the body is immersed in water, the door Bell rings.
LAW OF ENCOUNTERS: The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.
LAW OF THE RESULT: When you try to prove to the Mechanic that a machine does not work, it will!
LAW OF COFFEE: As soon as you sit down for a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something  which will last until the coffee is cold.
And Finally................. LAW  OF MS --- Whenever you think of selecting an approriate time to post your review so that your Review remains the longest in the RHS corner of MS page, you will find that your Review is replaced with another within 10 minutes.
