Ive grown up watching horror dramas; it is one of my most favourite genres. The speciality of horror dramas lies in their ability to combine the ultimate goal of horror of evoking intense fear, dread, and shock with the deep character-focused storytelling of drama. Ive watched almost all the horror dramas, and Stranger Things is one of them. After watching all its previous seasons, I was eagerly waiting for season five, and I love to tell you that I watched all its episodes as they premiered. It was fun watching the fifth season as it was full of thrill, horror and entertainment.
The series revolves around the epic conclusion in Fall 1987, with Hawkins ravaged by Upside Down rifts, forcing the united heroes to hunt a Vanished Vecna while under military lockdown and search for Eleven, leading to a massive final battle against a superior darkness. It centres on a desperate all-in effort to defeat Vecna, who has merged with the upside-downs Hive mind, threatening to consume both dimensions and culminating in the series' end with a new generation of kids playing Dungeons, mirroring the original group, as Mike closes the door on their shared history, suggesting life moves on. As all the previous seasons have witnessed remarkable performances by the cast, the final season has continued this trend. I was truly impressed by the outstanding acting of all the cast members, which made the series truly entertaining. The key figure, David Harbour, has done commendable work as Jim Hopper in the series. I never felt that even a single scene or dialogue was exaggerated. This legendary actor has shown once again his outstanding performance and proved that what he can do, nobody can do in such a powerful manner. Apart from David, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, and Winona Ryder as Joyce have also done a great job to make the series impeccable. Also, providing support and heart from the younger side of the group, Priah Ferguson has also acted well as Erica in the series.
The cinematography was highly focused on realistic, grounded visuals using warm tungsten lighting to complement the art direction and maintain a tactile feel, which impressed me a lot. Since I have watched all the previous seasons, I cant differentiate the advancement in editing, scenes, and visuals. It beautifully balanced the tight framing of emotional moments, vast, CGI-heavy sequences for the upside-down falls. Not only the cinematography, but the music was also outstanding. It features major 80s hits, with the finale prominently using Princes When Doves Cry and Purple Rain, alongside David Bowies Hero. I felt the music was used to both amplify the nostalgia and underscore plot points, especially the high-stakes finale.
Overall, Stranger Things Season 5 is a must-watch for those who have already watched all the previous seasons and those who love science fiction horror dramas. It delivers expected epic scale, heartfelt character moments, and thrilling action. This season has heavily featured the main cast in heart-to-heart moments, though sometimes the pace felt a little low, but it doesnt impact the series. I really enjoyed the final seasons of Stranger Things, and would highly recommend that you watch it.
