The SONY 970 is a well constructed phone, made in the basic black plastic that so much of SONY's product line is molded from. The on button is easily identifiable (it's bigger than the rest) and the push buttons have a nice tactile feel and provide an audible beep when pressed.
SONY's one innovation to the world of cordless phones is the jog dial. This is a little thumb wheel on the left side of the phone that enables you to spin through your stored phone numbers and dial them by pushing the jog wheel in. This jog dial proves even more useful in the Caller ID function. With a spin of the wheel you can instantly see who's called you recently and then dial that number back if you wish. The phone has a long battery life and appears to have a solid construction and base.
