When I first saw the Swift ,some how I dint like the looks ,it looked like a car made for cartoon character or to keep beside a clown. Gradually I started liking it ,may be because it has come from Maruti the famous trouble free car maker in our country.
I decided to give it a try and went for a test drive. My wife commented that the shape of the car looked like old taxis of France.
Any ways, I sat in the car and went for a ride. The power steering is excellent, but I did not find any difference in the ride quality between my existing Santro and Swift. I expected this car to be more comfortable and less bumpy. The sales guy said “ put on the AC, the climate control…etc etc”. I instantly switched on the AC and Ooops, the performance dropped immediately to a great extent.
Many gurus in this field advice that we must sit in the back seat and feel, whenever we go for a test drive. Again I was disappointed to see the space in the back is very poor and I was again tempted to compare with my Santro which is definitely good value for the money we pay.
Pick up is OK as long as the AC is not on, whereas in Santro we don’t feel the loss of power with AC on.
Drivability- again I am tempted to compare with Santro as Swift has a problem of view while reversing and also a little judgment problem while parking and driving in narrow lanes as it has the sides bulged and the rear window doesn’t offer adequate view. Whereas Santro is beautiful in maneuvering and turning is excellent, it takes lesser space than Zen when you have to take a U turn.
In city driving, it is important to have good pickup, otherwise you are a loser in the traffic. When I talk about pick up I don’t mean speed, as many people say that “these youngsters want speed ,are you in racing ?” and things like that.
When you are traveling on roads which have ups and downs somewhat like hills or when you are trying to overtake a smoky vehicle, rude auto/taxi, heavy diesel vehicles which come on you immediately when the traffic light is green, definitely one may have resist the feeling to get down from the car and push it hard with hands. This happens with me when I drive zen and swift is no exception, as people complain that they have to cut the AC and drive in the first gear and let the autos overtake them whenever they approach a flyover.
So, finally I realized that looks and tubeless tires is not what I am looking at if I have to drive it the Flintstones way and my family is sitting in a congested manner. A more refined vehicle with space, comfort, driving pleasure and luxury is my need and yes, the answer is GETZ.
