First Aid kit can save life! But please dont think its just to save life.It is basically a kit to help you improve or maintain your health at home.This kit is designed by doctors for individual needs and it differs from person to person.


This kit contains medicines and other medical equipment'generally' used by a person or patient in day today life.It should contain only those things which you or your family needs at home or during travelling.


The first aid kit should contain:


> All the medicines needed by your diseased family member.All prescribed tablets/capsules/syrups etc should be there in the kit if someone is suffering from diabetes, hypertention, epilepsy or other disorders.


> If your family consists of children under 12 years of age than, ow dosage tablets for children should be kept(as prescribed).


> Savlon or dettol antiseptic solutions should be kept and can be used for cleaning wounds.


> Sterlized cotton rolls and dressing is essential to cover any injury after cleaning.AVOID regular cotton as it can cause secondary infection or even tetanus!


> Keep a pair of small scissors and sterlize it under boiling water for 20 mins before using every time.


> Bandages can also be kept for better protection of wounds in case of children and women(who work with water whole day).water-proof should be preffered.


> A thermometer can help you monitor fever at home.If its above 101f please consult your doctor.


> Blood pressure monitering instument in case you have high or low blood pressure problems.


> Diabetometer, glucometer, urometer are some selp used machines useful to monitor blood and urine sugar levels in case of diabetics.


> Anticonvulsants for patients with epilepsy(Mirgi).


> Betadine ointment for cleaning and debriding the infected wounds.


> Silver-X tube for emergency relief in case of minor burns.


> Pain killers(analgesics) like ibrufin, diclonac, disprin etc are must.Local pain killers(balms and sprays) like iodex ointment, oidex spray.


> For tretment of sprains you can keep voveran gel tube.


> For loose motions the most effective is Norflox-TZ, others includes Lopamide, Metrozil etc.


> If acidity is your problem keep Gelucil tablets, Gelucil syrup(best).


> Gas problem? keep the most commonly used Eno.


> Glucose solutions like glucon-D and C, Electrolyte powders should be kept for maintaining fluid balance of a week patient after loose motions.


> For cold and allergy- Keep Avil tablets and Avil syrup, Cetrazine tablets, D-cold, Vicks etc.


> Vaseline jelly can be kept for treating cracked lips, cracked feets, dry skin etc.


> Cough syrups like tusQ-X, Benedril etc can be kept for common cold cough.If the cough persists stop taking that and please consult your doctor.


> Eye ointment like neosporin, eye drops like oflox, Itone(ayurvedic) can be kept.


> Antidepressants like diazepam can be kept to relieve your stress.It alsoi acts as a sedative and relieves your pain also.


> Ear buds are adviced to keep.Dont put finger, pen, match sticks to clean your ears.It can make you deaf.


> Antibiotic- The most widely used is penicillin and its derivatives BUT please remember if you are allergic to it(MANY PEOPLE ARE ALLERGIC TO PENICILLIN) avoid it.It is available as Amox250, Amox500, Novomox500, Amox-kid etc.


> Pimples- One of the most effective is erythrosin ointment.BUT remember pimples will keep coming till hormonal changes are occuring in your body.


> Mouth sores- Dolo gel, Dento gel etc are commonly prescribed.


> A cellphone in your pocket is one of the best first aid in case of an accident or any other emergency situations.


> Asthma attack- Salbutamol inhalers or as prescribed by your physician.


> The box maintained for use as first aid should be kept away from sun, heat, dust and in accessible area to everyone in your family.


> Solution for your contact lenses.


> Mouth wahes like listrine, clohex.


> Disposable syringes for patients taking insulin at home.


> The kit also contains all other items which are essential for keeping us healthy like bathing soaps, shampoo, tooth pastes etc.


Now never confuse between first aid kit and emergency kit! Emergency kit consists of only life saving medicines etc.


REMEMBER: please wash your hands with an antiseptic soap before and after touching the first aid kit.
