The movie ’’Zubeidaa’’directed by Shyam Benegal takes us back to the fifties where Zubeidaa is shown as the daughter of a rich filmmaker Suleman Seth played by Amrish Puri.
Zubeidaa is the name of the central character of a beautiful,educated,modern and obstinate girl who wanted to live her life in her own way in which the key words were freedom,enjoyment ,but she was always suppressed by her father.The film is about how her son Riyaz finds about her as she has been a mysterious character to him and he gets to know about his mother from Rose aunty (Lillete Dubey) that she was forced to get married to Mehboob Alam ,son of her fathers Karachi returned friend. But however, the marriage does not last for long as there is a dispute between the two friends and on the day Riyaz is born,divorce takes place.Later,she meets Maharaja Vijendra Singh(victor) through her father’s girlfriend (Aunty Rose) and they both fall in love and finally,she goes with Victor(Raja) leaving her son with his Grandma.In the next half,she is shown happy and enjoying her life with Victor but slowly she realises that for Victor,she is only an entertainment ,but for serious issues, he goes to Mandira Devi ,the first wife of Victor, who is really enjoying the status of a wife .Then she decides that if they cant be together in life,it is better to die together.Both of them die in a plane crash caused intentionally by Zubeidaa.


The film is very touching,very emotional and really takes one down the memory lane.The performances were absolutely stunning whether it’s Karisma or Shakti Kapoor or Amrish Puri and Lillette Dubey .
Karishma looks beautiful in the film and anyone who likes natural beautycan fall in love with her.Rekha in her fifties still looks nice and has played a good role.The role of a Raja doesn’t suit Manoj Bajpai , some other actor should have been chosen for the role . Nevertheless he has given a good performance.
The music by A.R.Rahman and the lyrics by Javed Akhtar have touched the hearts of the public.
