I have Yamaha R15 2.0 since 2013 and proud of having it til date. This is my ownership review of this bike using after 3 years.

LOOKS

First thing you notice when you see the bike is loooks. I mean its damn sporty and stylish that it could beat any other production bike under 4 lakhs in terms of looks. It doesnt looks like a 1.25 lakh bike.

It sports wide front fairings which plays important role to compliments its racing DNA, but I will tell you that those fairings are not only for looks but its design to provide more drag and stability while riding(specialy at higher speeds).

Engine and Performance

It sports 149.8cc liqiud cooled yamha motor which gives 16.8 Bhp @ 8500 rpm and15 Nm @ 7500 rpm which is highest figure 150cc segment in indian market. The bike can go 0 to 100 in 11 secs(for pro rider) and 13-20 secs(for average rider) and having top speed of 130 km/h to 150 km/h, depending upon the condition of bike.

It is equipped with lot of sensors(actually 9) I will not go I detail of each but this is the thing you cannot get in other options available in this price range.

Efficiency

It gives fuel economy of 20-50km per litre(ARAI 45kmpl) as you can see the difference is more than twice of minimum. I will tell you why. as I have mention "pro" riders above several times because.Yes.this bike requires special skills and practice to ride and to get perfect, its not rode like the other bikes like pulsar or apache or any consumer bike available in India. An average rider who is not familiar with these kinds of bike and its technical aspects will hardly be able to get an average fuel economy of 20-25kmpl. Even he will not make the bike to 100kmph after 6th gear. Thats true.! Happened many times with my friends. In my case I usually get 30-40 fuel efficiency in city daily commute and 45-50 on highway trips. And I am happy with that.

After Sales Service

Now this is where I find this company needs to change its strategy and I am very dissappointed. Yamaha recommends service every 2months/2000km whichever is earlier for the lifetime of vehicle. Each service costs almost Rs.2000 for normal servicing. In my case I had running of 10-12 km everyday. which comes around 600 km in 2 months. The company staffs calls every second month for the service reminder. If I dont go for service they give threat of cancelling warranty of my bike. I dont know 2 months or 2000 km is mandotory for all vehicles of yamaha or just for r15. Other companies in the market offers 5000-10000 km for changing oil, while yamaha alllow only 2000 km or 2 months this is clear looting policy which customer only knows after purchasing the bike.

Verdict

No doubt its the best bike in the segment in terms of every aspect. But be ready for the maintainance expense on this bike. Bike costs 1.3 lakhs onroad price, thats okay. Gives economy of 30kmpl thats also fine but apart from these its going to cost you Rs.20000 or more every year. A rough calculation. 12000 servicing charge, 3000 insuarance and 5000 for small mechanicle parts replacement. So guys be ready for that.

So guys this was my honest review of Yamaha R15 2.0, If like or dislike this review, please rate
