Your not looking for a bike that is too powerful or just too under powered.you want something for the city, a bike that is economical, environmentally friendly and blah blah blah....Yamaha's YBX is the bike you might want to try.you see them whizzing up and down city streets on this thing.no it isnt a beast of a bike as it doesnt look like that either.it is more of moderate version of the Rx135 except that this is four stroke and no it doesnt cause a fire hydrant to explode when you ride past it (look at the television advertisement of this bike).

its aimed more at the commuting group in the cities as there is a large demand for bikes that not only are light on the pocket but easy to ride and quick.as I only own a kinetic my usual experiences on these bikes only come when I pinch them from a friend for a quick spin and back inspite of me being and ammature rider(yes yes im no pro on these bikes..but hey I can ride).

lets get to know the bike a little better now as I proceed into the various details of this machine.

ITS SOURCE OF LIFE-

well since I refered to it as a bike for the city it doesnt mean that it has a really tiny engine.the engine capacity isnt bad at all for a bike like this as it lodges a 125 cc engine under that tank.it is more environmentally friendly as it is a four stroke bike.this bike would compete basically with the fiero when it comes to power.the engine brings out a pretty decent 11bhp of power which I think is not at all bad for a bike of its class.now it seems more to me that the same engine has been taken a put into the enticer but with only one difference the acceleration is the YBX is really good.

the transmission is four speed with the standard yamaha pattern of gear shift.the gears are pretty smooth as all the yamahas ive ridden but the engine lacks the sound which would have make the bike feel really good.fuel efficiency isnt all that bad.ive heard that fuel efficiency is about 55 to 66 kilometers per litre which is think is pretty good too.so I think its pretty light on your pocket when it comes to taking a look at those fuel bills.the maximum speed that the bike touches is about 100 km/hr.pretty quick for a bike to use in the city.

THE LOOKS-

well the looks arent all that horrible.except that a few improvements could be made to it.first of all from the front the bike looks a little thin.it looks more something that has been underfed.the head light is a change from the traditional rx 100 or rx 135 head lamp and I feel it look more sporty.the front wheel looks more like a wheel that has been taken off the traditional old cycles that you see people pedalling about on all day its just too thin.from the front the oversized crash guards make it looks more like a drooping face of a bulldog.this isnt a fierce bike...from the side the body design looks very sleek.it may lack all those sexy curves that you may want but atleast it looks a little better than most of the other bikes around here.

then engine from the side looks a little to small thanks to that gap on top of the engine seperating it from the tank it reminded me a little bit of that miniscule engine that the CD100 has.the fuel tank also is a very basic design and not in the lest bit attractive for the amount of money you are paying for it.the rear tire also looks more like a bicycle tire it could have been a little thicker.the silencer looks more like a huge cigarette thats popping out of engine.it also reminds me of those cigarettes you see in those cartoons.i like the way the body curves up to a high point giving it more of a sporty look but it looks a little odd with the oddly designed exhaust pipe and the skinny rear tire.from the back the body looks nice but the rear tire size like mentioned before is quite disappointing.

the instrumentation also breaks away from the traditional Rx 135 design.you have your speedometer on the left and a fuel meter on you right.the enlarged fuel meter could have been sized down to give way to an rpm meter but im not too sure if we all use it though.

THE FEEL-

this is the best part about the bike that really raises you expectations.the engine is pretty smooth.the pickup on this thing is also quite surprising for a bike like this.but we always get that from our dear yamaha's dont we.i didnt have any problem with the gear shift except that I forgot that the transmission didnt have 5th gear and kept trying to yank it up to fifth until I realised that it wasnt there.the seating is not too bad for the rider. but at back of the bike it can get quite uncomfortable.the seat narrows a bit and the pedals for your feet and fixed to far inside thus make you feels like you have rickets or something.the handling is a really friendly with this bike.it isnt to heavy or too light.

OVERALL-

overall its not too really bad,its good enough for our city streets and gives you a pretty decent mileage.not to heavy on the pocket and depending on the rider it could be fun to ride.the best thing I like about this machine is handling and its acceleration which gets you out in front pretty quick.not bad huh!!the seating for pillion rider could be redone a little to make it more comfortable and something could be done about those tires.but its nice when you just need it to commute and nothing else.
