Wuthering Heights – A review

A gothic novel in the true sense, leaves your head reeling for a while after you are done with this book.

Wuthering heights is a story set in the moors of Yorkshine .It is narrated by Mr.Lockwood who is the new Tenant of Thushcross Grange. When Mr.Earnshaw finds a little orphaned gypsy boy on the streets of Liverpool, little did he know the impact it would have on his family and his property. The boy is named Heathcliff and is loved my the master but equally hated by the master’s son Hindley.Catherine Earnshaw however loves Heathcliff, are playmates and very attached to each other. It is the story of their love and passion that destroys them and all those around them.

Heathcliff’s character is very well sketched, a orphaned boy abused and treated as a slave by his master’s son, seeks revenge by destroying Hindley Earnshaw and taking over Wuthering Heights.He makes Hindley’s son into a farm-hand.yet he is not done with his vengeance, he destroys Edgar Linton(his beloved Catherine’s widowed husband) by running away with his sister, torturing her and their son Linton.He takes over Thushcross Grange by forcing Catherine Lintion to marry his son.

After all the devastation, Heatcliff is not at peace, he wants to be haunted by Catherine, he gets disillusioned and passes away in a disturbing manner.His last days are like a mad man.

The only joy the book gives is that Cathrine Heathcliff(Catherine and Edgar Linton’s daughter) is in love with her cousin Herenton Earnshaw(Hindley Earnshaw’s son), they inherit the Wuthering Heights and the Tushcross Grange.
