Pros:
Sharing experiences are useful
Cons:
Why give even more space to false statements

There are some really excellent reviews on mouthshut and i really enjoy reading them. I have, however, read some reviews where people have clearly taken articles of the web and posted them as their own.
Some of the opinions thus posted are quite useful and good reviews in their own right. Some of these however are often urban myths and sometimes blatant untruths posted of the internet. I have seen some of the really excellent reviewers on the sit do this occasionally and this really gets my goat.

Why because whilst the former doesnt really hurt anyone the latter is passing on at worst false information that may scare and worry some people. e.g. There have been claims on the internet that anti-perspirant causes breast cancer. This claim is totally false and yet I have seen this referred to in a comment by a very good and respected author. I have also seen reviews containing information about the harmful effects of soft drinks which have been taken word for word off the net. Some of these false reviews claim to be backed by various institutions that have actually not supported the review in anyway and so you cannot always rely on the proof or backing given.

I can understand the lure of thinking that you are helping people by posting what you think may be helpful information. But some of this information is not true and really shouldn’t be posted as all you’re doing is spreading it even further.

Therefore the easiest way is to write about your experiences and not base reviews on other information unless you can be 100% certain of the proof. There have been some very helpful reviews based on people true experiences specially on topics like alcoholism, cancer etc and we should be seeing more reviews like these not people taking information of the net or pasting their friend of friend stories. I guess therefore if you put a steak in coke and the coke dissolved the steak write about it. If its one of those I know someone who said that if you do this etc. don’t as it probably isn’t true.
