Writing Reviews on Mouth Shut, where do I begin?

Let me begin by saying that you have to remember that this is an information site. This is where people come to hear what others have to say about products and services. This is a place to come to get great tips on health and beauty, travel, books, internet, media, cars, food, drinks and so on and so on.

This is not a site to say, ’’I bought a ......, it is nice, my friend got one too and he thinks it’s nice. You should get one.’’ The End.

I see reviews like that and I don’t understand what makes people think they are of any help. Tell us about the product or service. Who manufactures it, some of the features. Are the features of this particular item better than brand X? And why do you think so. Was the cost competitive? How about the warranty? And so on.

If you’re giving a helpful hint, go into detail! You’re not giving a plot away, you’re giving us (hopefully) useful information.

When doing book or movie reviews, details about the plot are not necessary. You can generalize it and give your opinion.   This way you don’t give the plot away of a new book or movie.

Add some personality to your reviews. I know that sometimes I just write facts with no personality, but you know what? Personality adds a lot to a review. Not everything has to be so serious.

And please, I fully understand that English is a second language to a lot of you, but proper punctuation, spelling and capitalization is the same in any language. And this is not the proper place for writing in slang! If you must use slang, use it in your comments.

Well, I guess I’ve opened my mouth again and I also guess I’ll get a lot of feedback again, but, that’s what I love about Mouth Shut, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion And everyone’s opinion counts!
