I’ve always expected something big and different from the world’s most reputed director and he has clearly reached the mark. Though all the comments(literally each one of them) on this movie
was negative before i watched it, the first few minutes(especially the lightning scene) told me that ’The film is already worth the money’.
I clearly never know what people really expect from a film. May be they look forward for a complete story with birth to death of the hero. The storyline is very simple here, may be explained as a narration of a sequence of events where there is an alien attack and Tom cruise tries to save his daughter from it. The screenplay, as that of his previous releases is gripping and holds everyone to the edge of the seat. I always wonder about how spielberg manages to imagine the pre-production for his films. And this one a perfect blend of technology, CGI and reality. In most of the attack scenes, the director leaves us spellbound. Never can one actually distinguish reality and graphics in any part of the film.
The scene i would pick in this movie is when Cruise ties up his daughters eyes to commit a murder. No blood, no fight, but you have it all, the feel that one would expect from such a scene. Hats off to spielberg. The next one would be the first attack of aliens, disintegrating people into ashes, Awesome!.The music suits the appropriate situations. On a pre-release statement, speilberg released to the press that the film will not be a child’s stuff as that of JP or E.T, certainly true. The director makes your heart heavier successively with the flow of the film. May be the pace of the film could have been slowed down a bit or rather elongated with additional events included. The length of the film is short giving a feel of incomplete story in the minds of the viewers. I would just add one piece of advice, the film is not for kids or the weak hearted.

The climax, i know would prove disappointing for everyone. Something that is common in H.G.Wells novels. May be speilberg should have altered it to suit the temper that was maintained through out the storyline. That’s really a disappointing stuff. But i dont really expect people to discard every aspect of the film for just one reason.
