Lev Nikalovich Tolstoy more commonly known as Leo Tolstoy, came very close to writing his complete autobiography in the book ''Childhood, Boyhood and Youth''. Infact he did write about himself till his acolosence. He put off the writing the rest of life's story for his last days but was never written. In this book we can see how Tolstoy was a diffident and introverted child. The made him very observant and attentive. He enjoyed watching social gatherings and was an attentive listener to all social conversations and tete-tete. Perhaps these situations had given him a good knowledge of the social system and the hedious and loving nature of people in this system.
In his magnum-opus ''War and Peace'' we can see how this man who was a shy, yet observant child has managed to weave out the complicated paterns of the old Russian social fabric. The story has more than 1500 characters and integrates all their social interactions into one beautiful story. With the Nepolianic war as a common backdrop he has managed to bring to life a great novel with deep philosophical content.
I would highly recommend this book to anybody who has the time and patience to complete the book. Great reading people.
