Hi tamil movie bees,
This is Muthu from madurai. Am a great fan of Kamal hasan and always admired his characterization. Recently i have seen his movie Virumandi. A very good movie for Kamal fans and
Tamil cine goers. Though the movie is having its own pros and cons on the whole its a good masala product mixed with some social message in it.
If kamal wants to tell only messages then again he should loose his bank balance again. So what he did is a right mix of all masalas and garnered and exhibited nicely this time.
First of all we have to appreciate the Art director
prabhakaran for erecting top class sets for this movie. One can hardly believes that this movie shot at Chennai with sets. he really carved and etched the same village feel in his sets.
Next comes to
Ilayaraja. The legend for folk music and Back round music. No one in india can compete with him for the back round score. In his recent times ilayaraja gave remarkable music for songs and back round music. this time too he did a splendid work with fine songs and he used best singers for his songs. Good work and well done.
Then next comes to the camera man
kesav prakash. He did a fine work and gave the village sets a real life. The bull fight is the highlight of the movie which he captured very nicely. And the experimental two way narration of this movie is excellently handled by the camera man. Excellent work Mr. Kesav prakash. Keep it up.
Editing is the biggest asset for this movie. Though repetitive narration happened in this movie with the help of the fine editing even ordinary village audience can feel the differences between each narration. Good work by editor
sudarsan.
Next mention is stunt man
vikram dharma. He directed some excellent stunt and action scenes. Except the bull fights others are full bloody violence scenes. The above all are the technical aspects about the movie.
Now next come to the acting part. Though kamal is the protagonist in this movie every one have contributed greatly. All are gave their fine performances which the character demands for this movie. We cannot say some characters acted in this movie, correctly can say as they lived in it. Example the pasupathis wife character. She doesnt even look like an actress, but an original village lady. She hardly speaks 2 or 3 dialogues but one can feel the real native lady in her characterization.
Next is
abhirami. She gave a fine and memorable performance for the Annalamni character. She simply lived on it. Not much expressions on the face but the dialogues. As a madurai local fellow i can acknowledge her dialogue delivery which carried more nativity in that. Really she worked hard to understand the madurai tamil ascent and she executed it very nicely in the film.
Then
Pasupathi. The main villain in this movie. He showed a mind blowing performance in this film as Kothala thevar. He is the best villain in recent times. His performance will live for years. His usage of madurai tamil is excellent. Then the special mention goes to Sanmugarajan. Am really proud about him after all he came from my College (The American College Madurai). He is the debutant in this movie but one can hardly believes that this his first movie. All because he is a fine stage and drama artist. The last but final sole behind all this work is none other than Kamal hasan.
This time he not only portrayed his acting skills but he showcased the great director inside him. Only one con about this movie I can say is some poor costumes and make up of the supporting cast. Some of their make ups not only suit for them and not live up with the nativity. This was excellently handled in Thevar magan.
I can say that film looked more rich and live than Virumandi in all aspects. Though all this cons we have to accept and regard kamal as a true experimentalist and a Non compromise Artist. The media and the other political powers made lot of hue and cry about this movie and its contents has to find place now to hide thier face. Hats off kamal. Muthu.
