I have been using the Tata Indicom / VSNL router/broadband connection for more than a year now. It is an ok product to use when everything is working ok.
Speed is not great but reasonable
for a country like India. They give you a split connection wherein the connectivity (and therefore the speed) is divided.
As soon as you have some problem the experience turns terrible. Their call centre staff is very rude and not trained at all. Sometimes they do not understand the difference between Broadband and dial-up connection (yes, thats true). The complain that they write down is different from what you tell them. For example I have been facing a frequent disconnection problem for over a month now. Everytime I call up the customer service guys say that they have taken down a complaint for the same. Later it transpires that they have written down a "no connection" complaint rather than a "frequent disconnection" complaint. Even after explaining to them they will write "not able to browse" when you want to give them a complaint about "no connectivity". Is browsing same as internet connectivity? Is that all users do (Browsing) when you are connected to the internet?
Extremely poor response to the complaints that they do take down. One tends to get extremely frustrated. Even the engineers accept the fact that the call centre guys are complete idiots.
My experience is that typically their connection goes down two to three times a month. And at least once a quarter you get into an issue where it takes a week or more to resolve.
My current "frequent disconnection" issue is now pending for over a month.
Be very aware of this when you do buy their service. My recommendation is negative for this particular service provider.
Oh - one more thing. They do not send you a printed invoice. Thats a pain.
