My mother is 66 yrs old and complaint of swelling on body(mostly legs and stomach) and left having food gradually in 3 months(from August 2013 to October 2013). It worried us a lot, we had checkup at Apollo Clinic General physician with all check ups, she suggested to meet any cardiologist by seeing ECG report. After meeting Cardiologist in Apollo he suggested immediate open heart surgery with very high cost in Apollo to save my mother though she was not in a condition to be operated and was not able to eat food properly.
Later to take double view I visited KIMS, there Cardiologist told me not to go for operation saying there is no chance if surgery is done, He suggested to bring up the condition using some medicines however with those medicines there was no relief in my mother's condition. I went to Bangalore to enquire in Narayana Hirdualay and it was horrible experience, they asked me to wait to meet Dr for 4 hours and later when I asked them, they told if you are in hurry you should have taken speedy consultation (Rs.1000 instead of Rs.500 for normal), it is too commercialized and crowded, I came out without consulting Doctor. I also visited Satya Sai baba hospital, Puttapurthy but they also suggested me not to go for surgery and continue with medicines as long as she can.
With confused mindset and some useful suggestion from my colleagues I visited UMCC, after seeing all the reports and without doing any unnecessary tests Dr Mullapudi suggested to admit my mom for 3-4 days to bring her in a position, otherwise she can eat and he suggested to go for MVR surgery after 15 days or 1 month. By God grace, Doctor Ratnam's confidence in the case & medication and family support we prepared her for surgery and my mother had surgery on 6th Dec 2013. The surgery went successful and she came to home after 24 days :) and now she is recovering well. The total cost of surgery including hospitalization post surgery was around 2 lakhs(40-50% compare to quoted by other big hospitals). I suggest UMCC for serious heart patients for whom heart surgery is being suggested as UMCC is total for heart care, the peace, care is not comparable with other multi-speciality hospitals where there is lot of noise and crowd to disturb the patient.
My only suggestion to UMCC is they can bring some other specialist consultant to help check the patient post surgery which will help to conduct all necessary tests post surgery.
