On 27th May, I visited the United India Insurance office at Mount Road (GG Complex). I visited them by 3 pm for renewing the two wheeler insurance. After going to 3rd floor (their office), I saw only 3 staff (1 staff and 2 office assistants) sitting in the corner of the office chit chatting. When I mentioned the purpose of my visit, the staff asked me for old document.


This person is a physically challenged and with the help of the office assistants, I understood that he is asking for the old document. I requested him to check in the system using my bike number which he refused. I came down to parking and took my old document and showed him. This time, he asked (since it has expired already) whether I have any policy currently active.


I requested saying I m not sure and please check his computer for the same. He did not do that and said something to the office assistants (2 ladies aging 45+ and this staff also should be aging 45+) showing the third lady sitting in another employee’s desk. I guess He was signalling office assistants whether they can approach this lady. From their interaction, I was given to guess that the 3rd lady sitting there , should be a recently joined employee and whether she knows the job or will have the authority to do the job etc.


However, the staff did not check with that lady on anything and simply told me to come back tomorrow. This really infuriated me. I simply said that I don’t want the policy renewed and tore the papers and came out.


(I had taken leave on that day and leaving to outstation by the evening. So, the staff's treatment and comment "come tomorrow" really irritated me. Hence, I thought its not sensible to continue with this kind of unproductive branch/company).


When I thought of approaching/complaining the Branch manager (Ms.Thamizhselvi or Ms.KalaIselvi I guess) for seeking help, she was not available. To add, I have visited this office 3 to 5 times in the last 3 or 4 years. NOne of the time, I was able to see the Branch manager in the cabin but only the name board. Apart from this, the other staff were also not available. The available staff was not interested in checking the computer and extending me with basic help which is going to get them the renewed service charges etc.


Other thing is that whether the third lady is an employee and if so, why did not she react to the situation which needs some proper action. If she had been an employee why the staff were in a position to discuss among themselves on whether she will know/do/authorized to do the job etc.


I asked for the phone number of the Branch Manager but was not given at all. But, my question is where is this Branch manager who is supposed to take action and help me out in this regard. The staff was least bothered to check the computer to know the current status. Earlier times I had seen the same person using computer. So, I am very sure that he can operate the system. But, this time, he did not even bother to check the system. Then what is the need of computers in this branch.


Overall, the branch is pathetic in basic requirements of an office. Though my reaction was emotional and outburst, I m contended now that I don’t have to again visit this kind of unproductive and careless team of staff who are not bothered to provide any basic service to the customer after getting their money. Visiting this kind of place is a simple waste of time, efforts and money. These kind of places basically make you to loose your spirit.


Hence, suggest everyone either to avoid United India Insurance company or this kind of lethargic and “don’t care about the customer” branches. Or else just be shameless in wasting your time or revisiting the branch several times just for renewing your policy.


I have so far not claimed anything in the last 3 to 4 years. So, in my opinion I deserved a special attention from the staff on a commercial aspects as well. To summarize there would not be any staff in the office and the available staff will be already in a retired mood. In this kind of offices only, you will see the number of office assistants present in the office is more than the available staff.


My experience was 1:2. I m sensible enough in not expecting some senior officer/s or team of internal auditors visiting this branch. What kind of a company is this????
